I am part of a large group of people that goes to Santa Cruz yearly (my second year in a row) for a cheer competition. We booked with Econo Lodge last year (same place, different name & owners), and our stay was fine. It was an older place, but it was kept up, was clean, and the price was right so there were no complaints from any of us staying there, which is why we booked again this year. WELL... First of all, when they say your room rate is $115, DONT BE FOOLED! That does not include kids! When you get there, you are charged per child. Under 10 is $10 per kid, and 10 and over are $25 per kid!!! It was late when we got there (around 8 p.m.) and everyone else was booked so we had no choice but to pay and stay there. Unfortunately, that's not all. Once we got to our rooms they smelled bad (we confirmed it was nonsmoking but we had ashtrays in both of our rooms). In my room the bathroom door didn't have a door knob but did have a square cut out of it in it's place, the toilet did not flush without us having to open the top and fix it, the sliding glass door opened fine but when we went to shut it it would barely shut and wouldn't lock, and there was some disgusting spot on the couch which looked fresh so obviously they don't clean the rooms well. One more thing, last year when we stayed they let us keep our cars parked in the parking lot all day for free while we were at the boardwalk. This time, however, even though the lot was almost empty by 11 a.m., if you want to keep your car there you have to pay $10. To me, these people are not accommodating at all, are greedy, and could not care less about their customers. Needless to say, we will not be staying there in the future, and I advise all that read this to make the same decision before you're stuck dealing with this kind of customer service, which was HORRIBLE.
