“WASHED UP ON THE BEACH”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 May 2014

Anniversary in Santa Cruz on the Beach.
We stayed Saturday evening at the DREAM INN which was anything but a dream

Bellman started out the adventure with " well you only have two bags you can take those yourself ". REALLY?
So we make our way to a room that has a 1970's decor.
First thing we notice the TV doesn't work properly. We make our way to a Balcony which has the only redeeming value of this hotel. Beautiful view of the ocean and pier.
The shutters are broken so we adjust for privacy best we can and
left the door open for sound of surf. Nice right? Wrong.
Woke to bull horns the next morning at 7:00. Some kind of race finishing in front of hotel on beach.
On top of that the bed was enough to drive you to the floor. I flipped more than burgers on a hot grill.

After our rude awakening we start to pull our selves together.
First thing keurig coffee maker. I open to find standing water inside, being concerned about the rooms over all appearance and condition i ran water through first. ( SEE PIC) flushed five times to get a clear cup of water

On top of that Iron didn't work.
TV couldn't check bill
Shower wand mildew on end.

Called desk manager to express concerns asked for an itemized bill and coffee be brought.
She said you can pick up your bill when you leave in a very SO WHAT attitude. Sent up a K cup for coffee maker. WOW! customer service all time low.

All of this you can have yourself for $479.00 and change.

I CALL AMEX TRAVEL TO COMPLAIN.
They called the hotel to get the run around themselves.
Their calling me back later today to give me and update.
So all in all I wouldn't a give a plugged nickle to go back.
Santa Cruz is far from it's glory days and hosts a lot of homeless on the beach.
Even more unpleasant attitudes from locals.

NOT ON THE LIST OF WOW!!! I'M GOING BACK SOON..

Room Tip: All rooms are over priced

My husband, 3 (almost 4) year old, and myself just got back from a quick overnight trip to Santa Cruz, and we stayed at the Dream Inn. Overall it's a great place. We were able to check in a couple hours earlier than their standard check in time. Initially we were given a room on the 3rd floor, which was directly behind the front desk. My initial reaction was off-putting, as I didn't think it was so good to be right next to the front desk. We walked in to the room, which overlooked the pool area. I immediately walked back out and back to the front desk. My problem? We were given an accessible room, and it did not have a tub. My son is afraid of showers and needs a tub. While it was definitely larger than the room we settled in, I also did not want to take an accessible room from someone who may need it more than we did.

I was helped by a different front desk rep than the one who checked us in, and was told that only the rooms with 2 queens have tubs (and were all booked up). We were given a King room in the Tower, on the 7th floor, and I was much happier with that room. It was away from the madness going on in the pool area, quiet, and the balcony was private (walled off on both ends so you can't see into your neighbor's balcony). The railing is solid glass, which is great when you're worried about the little one squeezing through a gap and falling off, and doesn't impede into the amazing view of the beach, boardwalk, ocean, and wharf.

The bathroom is definitely small, but doable. The closet is short in both length and width, I wouldn't have been able to hang up maxi dresses without the bottom pooling on the floor.

Bed and chairs in the room were comfy and clean. I would have gotten a better night's sleep had it not been for the (I'm assuming) frat boys or guys on a bachelor party that thought it'd be ok for them to run down our hallway at 3 AM blaring music and yelling, and then continuing it on the beach.

Room service was good, but expensive. I paid almost $50 for a large pot of coffee and two desserts. $12 for a large carafe of coffee which gives about 5 small cups is definitely over priced). I love room service and know it's usually up charged, but that was kind of hard to swallow.

The boardwalk closed up at 5 PM. On a FRIDAY. The arcade area closes at 11 pm. We basically hung out in our room because there wasn't anything to do after 7 PM. That alone (and nothing tied to the hotel) basically killed any thoughts of us wanting to spend another overnight trip here. If we were a childless couple there's more night options available, but not so much for a family.

I also can't believe how much the room rates are during the summer. I don't see anything in the room or on the hotel grounds that justifies over $400 a night. The vents in the bathroom had a thick layer of dust, and the AC units need to be cleaned as well. Little gross.

I also wasn't able to check out on the TV. Thankfully the front desk was quick and very nice during check out, but it was a little peeve.

Overall, if you're willing to spend the $ for this hotel, it's a great option. If you're going to complain about the parking charge or anything else, then look elsewhere.

Room Tip: 2 Queen rooms are the ones with tubs (kings have stand up showers). Stay in the tower (away from th...

The Dream Inn boasts an unmatched location. The views of the boardwalk and bay are spectacular, and the beach is steps for your room. We made this visit to run The Surfer's Path Marathon. The management went out of their way to be friendly, helpful, and accommodating. We were treated with personal attention and generosity by the entire staff. Thanks to the Dream inn for helping to make this weekend unforgettable.

This hotel was in a great location for the beach and boardwalk. We loved our room and the view from the balcony of the beach and pier was amazing. Fab coffee machine. Parking seemed a bit pricey on top of the room charge ($24) but the car was secure and valet parking was available for those who wanted it. We were very satisfied with the cleanliness. There were some good (but very different) walks along the beach both ways, but the walk into the town wasn't enjoyable or interesting.

Room Tip: Higher floors would have less noise from outside presumably

Excellent room with huge comfy bed and a great view of the beach and pier from the balcony. The bathroom was clean and had a good shower. Also had dinner in their place downstairs which was very tasty. Parking was very pricey at $24 per day.

Hotel is located in beautiful location with a nice beach and cliffs, downside is noise from the outside. Hotel was pretty pricey for off-season (January), but service was great and vales were very efficient. Rooms were clean, and spacious, staff courteous.

This hotel is directly on the beach. It has a huge back deck with a pool, sauna and Jacuzzi, facing the ocean. The views and sunsets are great with the Wharf and The Santa Cruz Boardwalk on one side and people surfing off the point on the other. The rooms are a little small but are bright and clean. Beds are very comfy. Having an ocean view lanai outside the sliding doors at the back of the room makes it feel bigger. There is a safe, mini fridge and all the soaps and lotions you could want. Room service is fast and good, especially breakfast. There are some really good restaurants, the Surfer's Museum and many other amusements, within an easy walk. An all around nice place to stay in Santa Cruz.

Room Tip: All the rooms are okay but the ones above the second floor have the best ocean views.
