I cannot understand how this hotel stays in business. Are the other hotels in Santa Cruz that bad? As soon as we pulled up behind the long line of cars and attempted to wait for valet, I knew something was wrong. As we waited I watched as one valet went back a forth....ONE VALET at the rush of check-in. I peaked inside and asked if there was self parking. Yes, across the street, yes, it will still cost you the same amount as valet!

Check in was check in. The room was a fine size but smelled mildewed and the hand prints on the ceiling added that "crack den" feel. If you are staying here, do not look too closely or you will be horrified at the lack of cleanliness.

On their website they claim each room has a "snack Basket" and "honor bar". These were both missing from our room.

Heated pool? Heated by a match maybe. Cold cold cold. Night swimming was not fun.

Check out was a mess with no clear line, no attention to service and I was just grateful to check out.

The kicker in all of this is that on the e-mailed survey I filled out I check "yes" to having someone from the hotel contact me. Two weeks later and I have heard nothing.

Stay away at all costs. So not worth even half their nightly room rate!

First let me say that I have been staying at this property for 50 years so I have seen lots of changes and not many of them good. The Dream Inn has been bought and sold over and over so many times and always with the same result. The new owners always remodel and raise rates. Its hard to swallow a $500 per night rate when you remember the $50 per night days.

In any event I stayed there for 2 nights and have the following :

Pros:
Great location and views. This remodel is tastefully done and much to our liking.

Cons:
They charge your credit card for the full room rate plus $100 per night for "incidentals" upon checking in. They tell you that, upon checkout, your card will be credited for any unused portion of that but it may take several weeks. You're welcome for the interest free loan!

Swimming pool/spa, as it has for years, is full of noisy kids and the water is cloudy.

The prices at the bar are insane. I suppose that's how they eat away at the $100 per night charge.

They now charge to park your car, $24 per day, even if you self park it across the street.

Want to use their computer/printer to check in for your flight home...they charge for that too.

Another hotel, with staff that doesn't really care about its guests, just looking to separate people from their wallets.

Room Tip: Stay in the tower away from the noisy pool.

Rooms very clean and comfortable, excellent ocean and wharf views.
Valet parking or self parking across the road.
Pool small, but well maintained and busy pool bar. Also access to the beach from the pool area

The ocean view see through private patios in the tower are incredible, we were able to fall asleep listening to the ocean, the pool was a perfect way to spend an afternoon sipping from the poolside bar, and the banana pancakes from room service were yummy! You can't get any closer to the pier either so everything Santa Cruz is nearby.

The position of this hotel is amazing with stunning views over the ocean. The rooms are a great size and the beds very comfortable. Bathroom was a bit small but the shower was good. With each room having a balcony it is the perfect seaside hotel. We ate in the restaurant which again overlooked the sea. The food was excellent. I would give this hotel a top rating but for the fact that they messed up our reservation. We had asked for a double room and a twin room for our two boys. The hotel denied that we had been guaranteed a twin room and would not honour what we had in writing. I think the problem was that the hotel was over booked and had made a mistake with our reservation which they would not admit to. It was disappointing that at no time did any manager make an appearance to talk to us about the problem. Despite this issue I would certainly recommend this hotel. We really enjoyed our stay.

Clean hotel with no specific interest. The pool is crowded and is loud.the ballet parking is obnoxious and of no interest. Rooms are clean but have no charm. No kind attentions. There is no life in this hotel which is a sleeping place with a nice view. Too bad

Room Tip: Rooms in the new part of the hotel are more quiet but are far away from every thing
