some of the lights in the room were out, the shower head didn't work properly etc...
the breakfast was great, and for the price we paid, I guess you can't ask for much more than that.

Purely functional motel -- decent choice if you get a good rate. The Sea and Sand Inn is a better choice, but is more likely to be sold out. Location near the wharf is the main feature here.

Room was clean to the point of smelling of bleach sometimes. Everything is the style of a motel, which wasn't quite what I'd expected. Noisy air conditioner worked very well.

Small towels typical of beach motels. No desk in our room (two queen beds).

Wireless internet worked well, occasionally quite speedy.

Continental breakfast offered two kinds of cereal with one kind of milk, waffles, toast, yogurt, danish, coffee and juice from machines, bananas. No attendent -- if something runs out, call the front desk and they'll replenish it, a system that worked OK.

Smallish pool and two small hot tubs, better than none and good for kids.

Our room was right next to one of the gates to the pool -- noisy, but not tragically so. Rooms are reasonably quiet, but expect some noise from adjoining rooms.

We decided last minute to stay in Santa Cruz for the evening and were stoked to find availability here. Unfortunately, the only room we could get was a smoking room, so that was definitely bittersweet. We took it though... I mean, the price was decent and the location was great.

We loved the spa tub in the bathroom, the location (just a walk away to the boardwalk and pier), and the fact that we got to stay in Santa Cruz for the night (we called in sick that following day to stay there), but besides that we weren't very impressed with the hotel.

The continental breakfast wasn't anything outstanding (pretty standard). Our room was next to the pool which made it really loud and it was also on the way to the continental breakfast so we got woken up pretty early. The room, as mentioned, was a smoking room, so it smelled. And, then the free wi-fi didn't work the whole night (I called the office and they said it was down).

Overall, we

This hotel was nothing special. The front desk staff was just ok. They didn't seem real happy to help out. They were just there doing the job. The ice machine was broken on the first and second floor. Our room was located right over the pool. It was bad because you could hear the kids playing in the pool, but the pool closed at 9 so we didn't have any noise all night. The a/c worked very well. And it had good water pressure. The room could use a little TLC. The hotel had free WiFi and a good amount of parking. The hotel is only 2 blocks from the oceanl so we were able to walk to the pier. The continental breakfast was at the other end of the hotel so we did not eat there.

We made a last minute decision to stay in Santa Cruz for one Saturday night and called this hotel. They only had the suite room available and we booked. The price was fair, the rooms were clean and the service was friendly and quick. The location is excellent as you can walk to the boardwalk or downtown. Great place to stay!

Room 221 was really clean, but the minute I laid down on the bed I got bitten on the face by a bedbug and I woke up with two more bites on my body. The only other problem was short-lived in that we had a jucuzzi tub in the room above ours which ran for about the first five minutes we were in the room. It vibrated our whole room!! The front desk clerk was very nice and gave us a 15% discount on the room because of the noise.

Positives: Clean hotel, parking in lot, close to beach (2 blocks), nice pool and hot tubs, Coffee maker in room, mini fridge & microwave, and free continental breakfast.

Negatives: Very pricy ($269.) for July, peeling wallpaper, outdated furnishings, popcorn ceilings, uncomfortables beds and pillows, kicked out of pool area at 9 PM.

This hotel needs serious rennovating if they want to charge what they are charging. Otherwise, I wouldn't give $70. for this place. My family of 4 all had a hard time sleeping on these beds. If you can look past the decor and the uncomfy beds, then I'd say stay here because it is clean and the pool is great.
