“Okay place to stay”
Reviewed 20 July 2009

Okay, this place has its ups and downs, and if you stay here you will be neither grossed out nor wowed. This motel has a lot of good going for it but they drop the ball on presentation. The folks greeting guests in the lobby don't really look like they are in the hospitality business. The sweatshirts with hoods, etc., could so easily be replaced by khakis or even nice jeans with polos. A smile would be nice. Then there's the big stain on the carpet in the lobby and the dirty, broken credenza behind the desk ... these things make you a little nervous about what's to come. They just don't give guests the impression that this place is doing all it can to welcome to you. If this owners would put a little more attention into the cleanliness of the buildings' exteriors and the lobby, and quit randomly storing supplies & paperwork all over the place they might be on to something good. The room was "aged" but sufficient and the beds were comfortable but if they would quit using highly perfumed cleansers and sprays, it would have been much more pleasant. On the plus side, the beds were comfortable, the pool is nice and breakfast was generous with good coffee, too. I hope the owners will focus on improvements because this motel has a lot of potential and looks like it was once a very nice place to stay. The exteriors of this facility all look like they need a good scrub. One member of our party is an AARP member and so we requested the AARP discount and we got it, a whole whopping one dollar off the retail rate.

Spent two days at the Days Inn San Carlos in Monterey which would get a very negative rating if I could find the right sight. This place was like a breath of fresh air. Nice room, everything they advertise. Comfortable bed, lots of pillows, big clean bathrobes, plenty of towels and toiletries, more towels for swimming if you wish. Great pool and two hot tubs. Television reception and channel choice very limited, but two blocks from Boardwalk which charges ten dollars for parking. Hot waffles for breakfast, "real" orange juice which was advertised at the last place and tasted like Tang. Real coffee, and cartons of real milk etc. for cereal. Quiet at night, air conditioner worked, everything worked. Wish I had spent the Monterey time here, and just commuted for other sightseeing activities. Would definitely return to this establishment on my next trip to the area. A "Hidden Gem."

Great offseason price for 2 night stay in January, $57 per nite (plus tax) for 2 queens, thru Hotels.com. Clean, comfortable, great location, friendly staff and fast check in/check out. My second stay here, 1st stay great too.

After much research, I booked 2 nights at the Ocean Pacific Lodge for a total of $225, the internet rate for a 2 Queen bed basic room. Upon check in, we went to our room, and were dismayed by the darkness, the small claustrophobic feel of the room, the small window being the main source of light, and the peeling ceiling with water stains, and some other minor repairs the room needed. What would we do with all 4 of us in this small room!!?? When traveling with younger children, age 6 and 4, we find we need times to relax during the day, and we felt this room did not offer enough space for that. In addition to the ceiling having water stains and peeling, I was dismayed by the lack of light in the room. The location was great, 2 blocks walking distance to the boardwalk, so we headed out immediately, sure didn't want to hang in the room, and found another place in town that was beach front, with vacancy. Although the other place was more expensive, $400 total for 2 nights, it was totally worth it due to our short stay and wanting to have good beach memories, the ability to relax and have open air and roominess, and the infrequency of trips such like these for our family of 4. On a cleanliness scale, I would rate the OPL a 3, as though the room looked to be very clean, there were some stains on the chairs (ewwwuuuu) and the whole ceiling thing was just gross. The management was wonderful, and did refund our prepaid stay in full when we told them we weren't happy staying there and wanted to check out right away. Another point about the Ocean Pacific, we have a newer Dodge Durango and were barely able to squeeze it into a parking space. If you just need a place to sleep, this might be OK for you, but if you need your space and a feeling of really being on a relaxing vacation, I would spend the extra money and go for the Terrace Court, where I was actually able to negotiate a better pricet than they originally offered.

We waited until the last minute on the Memorial Day weekend to book a room, and we were a little skeptical when we pulled into the parking lot. The hotel exterior looks a little dated. The front desk assistant had no personality but she was professional so it was ok. We asked for a room on the 3rd floor when we reserved the room and that's exactly what we got. The King/Jacuzzi room was very spacious and smelled good. Everything was clean and the bed was comfortable. The location was great as well. It was a couple of blocks from the boardwalk and parking at the hotel was free for guests, so we didn't have to worry about parking. I'd stay here again.

I've stayed at a couple of places in Santa Cruz before and they've been overpriced and dingy. The Ocean Pacific Lodge is hardly upscale, but it provides clean, adequate lodging. The room was good, if unremarkable; everything worked. But the location -- just a short walk from the Boardwalk -- can't be beat at this price. The included continental breakfast was typical. For the price, it is the best I've found so far in Santa Cruz

We were a little nervous after our last experience in Santa Cruz at another hotel. This place was great. Attentive staff, eco friendly, breakfast included, clean rooms. Bed was comfortable and clean, shower was good. We would definitely stay there again.
