The UCSC campus is set in one of the most beautiful locations of any campus in the US. Between the (second/third-growth) redwood forests among which the academic buildings are nestled and the expansive views of Monterey Bay from the lower part of campus, there's spectacular nature everywhere.

The campus is on the side of a hill, with bridges across several ravines that run down the hill - be prepared for good exercise if you walk the upper campus. Don't miss the "wave" sculpture at Porter College or the chance to walk across a pedestrian bridge in a redwood forest. Just make sure you have a map, since the campus was designed to have the buildings blend into the forest, making it somewhat difficult to find your way from point A to point B. Don't forget to look around at the flora and fauna, too; I often see deer, birds, and banana slugs (the real thing!) on campus, and have seen several species of raptor hanging out as well.

Disclaimer: I may be biased since I drive / walk onto campus every day for work.

It's a gigantic 3,000 acre campus, surrounded by redwoods and natural reserve of another 10,000 acres on the edge of Santa Cruz. Easy walk to get there, but poor signage to tell you were to go! Map it out and take a tour!

Went on a tour of the campus on our own. Very friendly and helpful people everywhere we went. Looks like a fun place to go to school.

It's a beautiful campus with breathtaking vistas and redwood pathways. It feels serene and peaceful and yet is filled with bustling students giving it a vibrant and alive feeling. If you're considering schools in California, or you just want to experience the beauty of the outdoors, check out UCSC.

UC Santa Cruz is a great destination for explorers! If your passion lies within academics or nature, you will be sure to find it in the Santa Cruz foothills.

I recommend devoting the whole day to see what the campus and it's surroundings have to offer. The campus is friendly to visitors by day, but campus security officers make their rounds during the night.

Most SC Metro busses will get you to UCSC for a cash-fee, or catch a campus bus (fee-free) that run within and around the perimeter of the campus.
