“Nice but Noisy”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 May 2012

The Sea and Sand Inn staff are very helpful, professional and friendly. The fresh cookies, popcorn, ice tea and lemonade were a welcome treat in the afternoon.
Pros: Great location, beautiful views of the ocean, wharf and Boardwalk. The beds are comfortable, the rooms are clean and the bathroom is spacious. Lots of nice areas to sit and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Heavy curtains on the windows block out much of the light from the street and early monring sun.
Cons: Our room was downstairs and next to the security gate. You can hear your neighbor upstairs walking around. Every time the security gate is opened it makes a noise behind the headboard of the bed just because of its location to the gate. The hotel is located on a busy street and your bedroom and bathroom windows face the main traffic area so you have lots of foot and car traffic all day and night. You also are blessed with a stop sign outside the window so you will hear cars/motorcycles stopping and starting. Early in the morning you get the noise of foot traffic i.e. surfers chatting, walkers etc. The other noise you will hear is the barking of the seals at the wharf. Each room is allowed one parking space and they are not preassigned. Parking is on a first come first serve basis which isn't a problem unless you aren't very good about parallel parking. Several parking spaces will require you to be very very good at parallel parking. No direct beach access. You must leave the property, walk down the hill to access the beach.

Room Tip: Stay upstairs. You can hear your upstairs neighbor walking around.

Visited Santa Cruz many times and this was the best place so far. Great view and outside area to relax. Walked out to dinner and around town. It was fresh and clean, though a little small, but it's an older property so it's expected. Breakfast provided each day was very convenient. The staff was friendly and helpful. Great place to stay when you're in town for more than just a night.

Room Tip: next time I'd get a room with a patio for more space and some shade for the afternoon

We stay here often as it is our favorite spot in Santa Cruz. The gardens are lovely and it is in just the best location. Its easy to park, and walk along the cliff, or down to the boardwalk. I love waking up to the seals in the bay. The rooms are very basic, but very comfortable also. It feels like you are not intruding, and that it is a personal quiet place. We usually get 2 motel rooms for our family, but the last time stayed in their adjacent cottage which was Really nice. Hot tub, comfortable beds and more privacy and quiet. A good little place!

We just stayed at the Sea and Sand Inn February 10 & 11 and we loved our stay here! We booked it due to the great Trip Advisor reviews we read. We traveled with our 5-year old daughter and the Inn was very cute and nicely kept. The grounds of the property were immaculate and it sits atop a huge cliff and each room has a complete ocean view. When you look out over the ocean - to the left you see the Warf and Boardwalk (a short walk) and to the right is a surfing hot spot with a nice walking path - so it really was a prime location. Much better location than the other hotels I saw on Trip Advisor. The rooms were a typical "Motel Room" style, but they were cute and the bathrooms were newly remodeled and comfortable. They have a really nice complimentary continental breakfast - yogurt, hard boiled eggs, bagels, fresh cut fruit, scones, etc. All served in a cute little area off their little kitchen that felt just like home with a roaring fireplace. Then in the evenings, they have complimentary wine and cheese which was also very nice and in the same room. All in all - a great experience and we'd stay there again in a heartbeat! Book it - you'll love it too! ;-)

Room Tip: All the rooms have ocean views from what we could tell.

We stayed here for 3 nights and appreciated the nicely appointed king room with spa and fireplace and the motel's fabulous location. Overlooking the water, the motel is within walking distance of restaurants, including those on the boardwalk and wharf. From our room, we could see the bay, wharf, and boardwalk, surfers, sailboats, and sunsets. We enjoyed the complimentary wine and cheeses in the evening, and a nice assortment of muffins, scones, fruit, yogurt, and other foods for breakfast. We found it reasonably priced compared to B&Bs in the area (where my husband wanted to stay; he was happy with this choice). We hope to return again some day.

Room Tip: All rooms have an ocean view (Monterey Bay). I don't think any of the rooms would be a bad choic...

We enjoyed a 2 day stay at this property and found it to be a great spot to base at to get out and explore the Monterey Bay area. The room was clean and comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful. The Wine and Cheese offering in the evening is a nice touch and we would happily recommend this location for a visit to the interesting town of Santa Cruz.
