We had a standard king room on the bottom floor. The grounds are great and amazing spots to overlook the ocean. The room was so small we had to juggle the suitcases around the crib. The hotel was perfect walking distance to the boardwalk. The room was clean and had the softest towels. Our favorite part was having the window open that evening and hearing the ocean, the sea lions and the yells from the boardwalk. The hotel was super secure and felt really safe. Splurge on a larger room but you won't be in it long. Too much fun stuff to do.

Room Tip: First floor had easy access to the beautiful sitting areas.

Claucat is correct that this is a glorified motel. But that's not really a negative in this case. From the street, the Sea & Sand may not look spectacular, but really that is the backside of the inn. The important part faces the ocean. Perched on the cliffs overlooking the beach, the Sea & Sand has a lovely garden and terrace to sit in and enjoy the stunning view of the Pacific, the Santa Cruz wharf and the Boardwalk (which are also within easy walking distance). There was a bridal party there taking pictures when we first arrived. I could see using the whole garden for a small wedding. It would be lovely.

The rooms are quaint, spacious and tastefully decorated with non-hotel style furnishings.

Pros:
Location, location, location
Friendly helpful staff
comfortable beds, sheets & pillows
Clean
Superb continental breakfast
Garden
Fireplace in breakfast room
Afternoon cookies/punch/lemonade in the summer, wine & cheese in the winter
VIEW - we woke up to the sounds of barking sea lions
Spacious bathroom
PLENTY of towels and washcloths
Quiet (except for the sea lions :D )

Cons -
Shower only, no bathtub in room 101
No fridge or microwave in room
$3 to rent a movie from the front desk (should be free)
Parking spaces are a tight fit

This little motel would be nice for a romantic couple's weekend or a family vacation.

Room Tip: Room 101 is closest to the main office and breakfast room. There is a breezeway on one side and roo...

We stayed here in June and loved it!!! Such wonderful staff and a very nice breakfast. Why in the world is the previous reviewer writing about her stay 5 years ago? I'm surprised Tripadvisor printed that nasty review!

Room Tip: we stayed on the first floor and still had a nice view.

We booked this place for one night a few years ago based on a friend recommendation and felt it was nothing more then a glorified motel. The room was cramped and noisy and the so call "breakfast" was nothing more then a few muffins and coffee. Granted, we stayed there about 5 years ago so it may have improved. I really did not stay in 2012 BUT your review options ddid not give me a chance to write in a date.

Traveling with young children requires more planning, making sure they are not only comfortable but also entertained and engaged.
Sea and Sand Inn fulfilled most of our family's needs during our visit:
Great ocean view, comfortable queen size beds, walking distance to the Boardwalk and an assortment of restaurants at the pier.... Waking up to the sound of the ocean was the biggest plus!
Excellent continental breakfast and friendly staff...
The NotSoGood (but insignificant):
It is an older property (with some real functional upgrades, like in the bathroom), old TVs (not LCS flat screens, but who's there to watch TV?), and dated rooms (but very very clean! That's a must!)
So, still worth every penny spent ! We parked the car for the duration and walked everywhere....
Will definitely stay there again!

We just got back from a wonderful 2 day stay at the Sea and Sand Inn. We stayed in the Executive King Spa Room. The staff here are friendly and informative about Santa Cruz. My kids and I really enjoyed the continental breakfasts and the afternoon cookies, popcorn and lemonade. The view of the ocean and the Boardwalk is gorgeous. It is only about a 1/2 mile walk or drive to the Boardwalk. You can get to the beach in less than 5 minutes. This is our 3rd year coming to the Inn and we will definitely be back again....

Room Tip: Every room has a view of the ocean but the rooms on the top floor have a better view.

A bit too pricey for my liking but upon arriving you can see that the price is definitely justified.

The view is out of this world; every room is overlooking the ocean and the beach. From my room I can see the amusement park and the pier. However as the room faces out onto the shared walkway there was very little privacy without closing the curtains, which you don't want to do with such an amazing view. I didn't try the breakfast but the afternoon tea (of lemonade and fresh baked cookies) was a nice little treat. Room was on the small side but holidays aren't for staying in your hotel room all the time!

Location is perfect; right next to the Broadwalk and within reasonable walking distance of Downtown.

And it's true about waking up to sound of the sea lions!!!
