“Lovely and Affordable for all Ages, USA and International”

While job interviewing, remained here for a few unexpected, extended nights. Lovely and comfortable restored vintage estate in a lovely and well-kept neighborhood. Very clean. Staff friendly, welcoming, efficient. The estate park-like grounds are open to the public and Hostelers for day use (building access closed 11am-5pm). Great kitchens and laundry facilities. One revels in the "barking" of the wharf seals, and the lapping of waves upon the beach of the Bay. Beach and wharf a lovely walk down a short slope. Whether walking, biking, or driving, "Life is Good" here....great vicinity from which to explore. Close to public transportation hub. To me, downside is a maximum of 14 days per year, whether consecutive or sporadic visits. I found 99.999% of Hostelers were kind, pleasant, polite.

Room Tip: I enjoyed the front cottage more for it has a living room/dining area combo with cozy furniture.

As with many HI's in the USA there is an alcohol ban and a curfew, as well as restricted access to facilities during the day for cleaning.

However, once you look past these annoyances, the location is fanastic, although you do have to pay extra for a parking pass, and the communal areas are well equipped. The main kitchen is huge, it has a nice dining area (and a BBQ for guests to use) and there is a TV area too.

It was very quiet when we stayed (everyone went to bed early). The dorms were a decent size and clean.

Stayed here for two nights and had a great time. The rooms were clean and spacious and the little cottages with dorms in were lovely! The staff were extremely helpful after my friend had severe sun stroke. Santa Cruz is a really nice place, the hostel is within walking distance of the beach, downtown area and greyhound bus station. Would stay there again if I am ever back.

Room Tip: Rooms in the main building have better internet connection and the cottage rooms are really nice lit...

We booked in for 3 nights but stayed an extra 2
we had a private room for $55 a night, it was a good size and seems really clean.

It was only 5 mins walk down a short slope to beach and sea front. The town was 10 mins walk with lots of cool shops and huge trader joes super Market

The hostel is spilt into cottages and shared bathrooms, the kitchen is really big and we got there on a Friday afternoon and it was full of food which apprently gets donated. There were cakes, bread, salad ect it was great.

The curfew didn't bother us as we were happy to be back by 11pm the only slight annoying thing was how you had to be out by 11am
I had to skype my family one day and they hurried me out our room at 11.05
also if it had been bad weather you can't use the room or any of the hostel between 11am and 5pm and you have to get a new code from reception everyday

The staff were really nice and friendly, at night we would play cards in the kitchen and they knew we were not making loads of noise so let us carry on after 11pm
They were always helpfull

I would love to stay at this hostel again abd recommend anyone going to Santa cruz should to :)

We spent 3 nights in a private room here, and it worked out great! We had workshops during the day, so the fact that they close the place during the day didn't matter to us. It's in a nice residential area (beautiful old houses!!), and not too far from the beach or tons of restaurants.

Our room was very basic. We had a bed and a chair with a lamp clamped onto the back of it. The bed had drawers under it to store stuff, but the bed frame was very squeaky (like EVERY move you make on the bed it squeaks & creaks). There was a nice clean bathroom just around the corner, and a full kitchen for us to use. Plus there were a couple computers (although hardly anyone observed the 15 minute time limit!), and a nice lounge area. This was all in the one main cottage that we stayed in. Upstairs there were dorm rooms I believe (we didn't go look). There are a handful of other cottages tucked around the property (it's really adorable). One of the cottages has a main kitchen (with a couple stoves and enormous fridge), large dining area, tv/lounge room and laundry. They can sell you one scoop of detergent at the front desk (which is SO helpful when you're travelling!).
Everyone we met was really nice. We would definitely come back!
*I overheard that you have to be from/have ID from outside of Santa Cruz to be able to stay here*

We just arrive from San Luis Obispo (not good experience with that hi hostel) to Santa Cruz, and, we are very happy in this hostel. Very Kindly staff, good location and prefect rooms. The only bad thing is that the hostel closed between 11 to 5. Good value if you are thinking to stay in Santa cruz for a few days.
