We tried La Posta again last year after a bad experience a few years ago and had several reasonably good meals there before this evening. Our experience there tonight, however, has turned us away for good. This is a shame, as we live quite close by and eat out enough that we are bored with most restaurants that we like in Santa Cruz.
To make a long story short, they ruined our date night by refusing to accommodate a minor request and then both the hostess and manager lied to us about the reason why; they both gave us different reasons and both stories were demonstrably false. After we complained to the manager, our meals were served and noticeably smaller (about half the size) and less well presented than the same dishes served to the tables around us. Variation in portion size is a reality in restaurants, but this seemed to clearly be retaliation for complaining, particularly since we saw the hostess and manager conferring in front of the kitchen staff.
To make matters worse, it seems that our initial treatment, being sat at a table right by the kitchen from which they refused twice to reseat us to one of the several other open tables, was likely at least partially discrimination. This place is popular with the middle-aged yacht club demographic, but one of us is dark-skinned and we gave a hispanic name to be notified when our table was available. We were then seated at four top by the kitchen and not one of several empty two tops on the far wall and, as we were told that these were "reserved", but the table we asked about was then given to another couple without reservations who arrived ten minutes after us. Having to look at them enjoying their dinner at the table we had requested, and more importantly, being lied to by the staff, ruined our night out.

The incident several years ago also involved poor customer service, as a complaint about the entree of one our party was brushed off by the server and then the manager, and they did nothing to remedy it, but instead made the person feel bad about raising the issue.
Won't be patronizing them or their sister restaurant, Soif, again, as management reflects ownership. It appears that they don't think they need our business and I'm sure that they will do fine with the yacht club and small plate food snob types anyway.

We had no expectation for a good dining experience, let alone a gourmet one - however, this exceeded our expectations. We shared a Brussels sprout salad (a recent common offering at many restaurants) which was delicious and followed that with a "Amatriciana" wood fired pizza. Both were well prepared, unique and tasty. Home made bread with a "good" (yes, Ina Garten) olive oil was excellent. The Toasted Almond Panna Cotta was so delicious that I could not stop after my usual three spoon self imposed limit. It was great to see a thriving restaurant with table after table enjoying the food and camaraderie the restaurant and its format encouraged.

We've enjoyed dining at this Seabright neighborhood restaurant in Santa Cruz before and like many of the reviews state, the restaurant is generally very good, but this time our male waiter (id #1) was a bit lacking in service. Specifically, he neglected to ask if anyone at the table wanted drinks and when one person ordered a drink, he didn't wait to get other drink orders before abruptly leaving the table. Thank goodness the waiter relied heavily on the bus staff, who were excellent, otherwise our rating for service would have been "Poor!" Everyone at our four person table enjoyed their food, which included pizza, pasta and lettuce salads. The only critical comments on the food would be that the dishes could use more spices, and the vegetarian options on the menu are limited. Overall though, it was an enjoyable Christmas Eve.

A great place, warm and inviting on a rainy night. Live music is cheerful and not obtrusive. There is a small bar which aids the ambiance. Interior design is simple, with warm colors, high ceilings. Not too noisy, just the right level. Service is prompt and friendly. I will definitely come back.

This is a popular local spot. You need a reservation. We travel often to the area and quite enjoyed our meal here. The menu has some creativity in it, which was nice. Food was tasty and timed well. Service friendly. It is a casual spot full of noise and energy.
