“Delightful - clean - modern - close to everything”
Reviewed 14 July 2013

I loved our room in Pacific Blue Inn. The room was clean, clean, clean. I love the modern feel and spacious room. The wall art is for sale and I was tempted to take them all home. The walk-in shower was fun. The location is perfect - within walking distance of downtown and the beach. We left our car parked most of the time. It is off the beaten path and therefore more quite then the boardwalk hotels.

We opted out of the breakfast for cost reasons, thinking that The Mill coffee shop would have breakfast foods. They only sell muffins and bagels. Other folks raved about the food, so we will opt in next time.

Tips:
~We did take advantage of the free bicycles. There is a wonderful path along the ocean that led us to tide pools and Natural Bridges State Park. The bikes were first rate!
~Do eat breakfast at least once at the Walnut Creek Cafe.
~Do ask where you can find the less crowded beaches.
~Do get out on the water. We rented sea kayaks and floated with the sea otters, spotted 3 dolphins and viewed a seal parked on a walkway under the dock.

Room Tip: We were on the top floor during a 'heat wave' which meant 80 degrees. But, the open windows...

What a wonderful discovery! I just returned from a visit to beautiful Santa Cruz and was so fortunate to stay at Pacific Blue Inn. It's rare to find such a great place to stay at a good price. Pacific Blue Inn offers tranquil, modern chic, comfortable rooms, a "zen-like", peaceful courtyard with a fire pit, wooden benches, outdoor patio tables amidst lovely plantings - and fantastic, homemade, delicious breakfasts. Cordial, talented chef Alex prepared incredible cinnamon pop-overs and savory egg dishes, served with abundant coffee and fresh fruit. Delicious, ample portions. The breakfast menu includes also pancakes, French toast and other options. What a convenient location! - Pacific Blue Inn is a 10 minute stroll from the famous Santa Cruz pier, boardwalk and West Cliff road with its walking/biking path with views of sea lions, surfers and pelicans. Stores, restaurants, parks and historic homes are minutes in the other direction from this B&B. From the moment I contacted the Inn by email, upon my arrival and throughout my stay, the staff was welcoming, friendly, helpful and full of information to make my visit even better. I look forward to my next visit to this exceptional Bed and Breakfast and very highly recommend it!

Finally, a really perfect little European guesthouse in the middle of Santa Cruz. Forget the cheezy beach joints, this place is a cross between modern Dutch and Swiss, clean small and charming rooms with modern Mediterranean decor, wood floors in the studio area , stone shower floors. I cannot believe the unassuming exteriors hide such charm. I have been living in Europe and traveling throughout the world in relative luxury on a budget for over 35 years: the Pacific Blue Inn is truly one of the best places I have ever stayed (compare it to the best Swiss Inns). The staff is great, the rooms immaculate, the beds sumptuous. Be aware the rooms are European, ie, small by American standards, but big by French, Dutch or Swiss Inns. PS. I hate writing reviews...except for this place! Bravo Pacific Blue!

We stayed two nights in Santa Cruz at this fantastic little inn. We had a very comfortable (especially the bed) and modern room at the bottom floor towards the courtyard. Every morning the chef prepared a large breakfast that gave us a great start of the day. And not only the chef, but the whole staff was very helpful throughout our stay. In particular we can mention one afternoon when we were sitting in the garden and were served a complimentary bottle of wine just like that. The location is also great with both the city centre and the beach/boardwalk within walking distance. And then three is the nearby and free parking. The price is perhaps a bit high, but on the other hand you will most likely have a very nice stay in Santa Cruz!

Room Tip: Bottom floor in the corner with both some privacy and access to the garden.

Actually, we loved everything about this inn. The room was nicely decorated in a modern style, the bed was very comfortable, and there was a nice little private balcony area outside our room with a table and chairs. We were in town to drop our daughter off at UCSC (she didn't stay with us) so it wasn't really a vacation, but felt like one due to the overall atmosphere. The breakfasts were amazing, cooked to order, with fresh fruit and homemade jams. We parked and walked to downtown and the beach, in opposite directions, both about a block from the inn. We've stayed many places in Santa Cruz (including the Westcliff Inn) and this was our favorite. We look froward to staying here again.

I have mixed views on our stay in the pacific view, it is certainly a nice hotel and the girl who looks after it was very helpful and friendly, the bikes you can borrow were great and it is in a good location in the centre of town.

The bed was comfortable and the room nicely fitted out but unfortunately our room was on the Ground floor and had little or no daylight which made it very dingy and for the money we paid ($220) I would have expected considerably better unfortunately the person above us decided at 5am to get up and move all the furniture around in their room normally this wouldn't be such a problem but all the floors are tiled or timber so can be very noisy.

I wouldn't say don't stay here as I am sure the upper level rooms would be great just make sure you get a good deal and don't end up on the ground floor.

Also as a word of warning while we were there a car got broken into in the hotel spots at the back totally not the hotels fault but Santa Cruz is a bit different to other places on the coast so make sure all your valuables are out of the car.

Room Tip: Avoid the ground floor
