Close to pier which is brilliant. Heather is lovely.
Room clean but bed very old, lumpy and noisy. Blanket had holes in it, pillows hard and towels threadbare. No soaps or anything so bring your own.
Air con didn't work much and was noisy, curtains did not block any light and breakfast was, well, not.

Beach View Inn is only a couple of minutes walk from the beach, wharf and Santa Cruz Boardwalk. We also had a good view of the Pacific from our room - which wasn't bad. Can't beat the location.

Our room was comfortable and clean - while the staff was friendly. We didn't mind the hotel being a bit basic - although the breakfast could need improvement. Very nice experience here though.

You can't beat this location. Short walking distance to beach and wharf. Great value. It's not a Hyatt, but you're not paying Hyatt prices. Had a problem with the air conditioner....front desk personnel quickly moved us to another room.

The location was perfect but the rooms are a little outdated. They need new comfortable beds, new paint, and maybe a little more to choose from with the complimentary breakfast-like fruit. Overall a very nice stay due to Heather being so bubbly and smiley.

Don't stay here. The motel is as bad as any could be. Very poor quality furniture, old and stained, torn and dirty. The bed was small and broken down. We could find no beach view from any where on the property. The price at 170 a night was theft. The room was not worth 50 bucks.

On the plus side the front desk was friendly and when we complained at the lack of the hanging rack in one of the three rooms we rented they installed a replacement within the hour

The location is pretty nice. But regardless, do not stay here

We checked in and headed up to our assigned room. The Inn is quite small, housing probably 12 units on the second floor and approximately 8 units on the first. The entry to our room was at the end of the walkway in a dimly lit corner where the entry way to 4 rooms are clustered. The entrance area is dark, even at 4 o'clock in the afternoon on a sunny May day. We unlocked our door and entered the room. We immediately noticed an overpowering, artificial pine (read: CHEMICAL) odour. After locking the three locks on our door (that many locks leading me to feel concerned about safety and security), I opened the window to allow some fresh air inside. While I opened the window (for which the lock was cracked, once again peaking my concern for security), I noticed a black fuzz on the window track. The window sill area looked like it had never been cleaned. In fact, the entire room looked like it had never been thoroughly cleaned, nor broken areas repaired. And despite the Inn's name, we did NOT have a view of the beach.

After the chemical pine odour dissipated, a wet, musty smell took its place. Presumably, this smell was rising from the carpet which was most likely a vibrant emerald colour upon installation. Now, the colour bordered on brown due to the dirt permanently engrained in the carpet fibres probably resulting from never having a professional cleaning. Even darker were the black stains which were numerous and appeared throughout, from the entrance into the room to the bathroom, under the bed and around all the furniture. It seemed as if housekeeping (if they exist in this place) failed to even try to remove stains. This thought was confirmed when I noticed dried brown marks on the cabinet where something had obviously been spilled, the liquid run down the cabinet, dried when it should have been easily wiped away during cleaning.

The queen size bed in the room was again, far below acceptable standard. The frame looked like it had been bolted into the wall at one time but later moved. Rather than filling in the old hole in the wall, there was clear plastic tape covering the hole. The mattress itself was sagging so much that the mattress top was practically concave. My boyfriend has a previous back injury which surely would have flared up had we slept on this bed. Myself, with no injuries, would probably have incurred one had we slept on this bed. This mattress was so worn out that it should have been replaced years ago. The linens covering the mattress were themselves in dire need of being thrown out. The fabric was so worn and thin from hundreds of times of usage and hundreds of washings (I hope). The linens, like the mattress, needed to be replaced a long time ago.

By this point, we were thoroughly disgusted with the state of the room. Our disappointment was only increased when the guest in the next room arrived and began talking on his cell phone. We could hear every single word he was saying due to the paper thin walls of this place. We were ready to leave after being so horrified by the state of this Inn but the person next door made us pick up our bags, return the key to the front desk and leave even faster.
The only positive of this Inn was that we were able to use the free wi-fi they offer to search for another hotel. We ended up booking at the Marriott in Monterey which offered luxury amenities far beyond our needs and at a rate much higher than we wanted to pay but the room was clean and quiet and safe.
