I was in the area for four days visiting a friend, and we actually enjoyed the room very much. The room had a very 'beach house' vibe, with the wood floors and decor. It was a quick 10 minute walk from the Boardwalk, with numerous other local places within walking distance. We didn't really investigate the pool, and the hot tub is literally located in the middle of the parking lot which we just found kind of odd and silly (especially the night that constant 'baby making music' was emanating from the hot tub enclosure)

We really enjoyed our time here though, and if I need to grab a room in Santa Cruz again, I'll know to shoot for the Continental Inn. My friend DID complain about the mattress comfort, though I had no problem and she is self admittedly picky about mattresses.

This is Santa Cruz in the summer. I'm here for 2 nights while visiting family and in July SC is packed and expensive. This place is ok, for what it is. The bed is comfortable, the staff is nice, the parking is a pain, but the room is clean. Not looking for luxury and won't find it very much in SC--if you look at houses for rent you may get a better value--but this is close to downtown, walking distance to the beach, and easy on-off the freeway. If you are looking for low end in SC, this is a decent choice.

If I hadn't gotten a deal thru a booking company I would have really been dissapointed. Room was clean but outdated with those cheap bedspreads which I doubt they wash after each guest. The parking was scketchy, behind the hotel and dimly lit. Coffee in room but no condiments. It's not bad if Santa Cruz is booked.

Clean, quiet, comfortable. Aesthetics are not thrilling but we were only there for a good night's sleep, which is what we got, the cheapest rate available is on the hotel's own site. I think we saved about twenty bucks that way. I also requested a quiet room, which we definitely got. Actually the room was more like a little 'suite,' if you could call it that, with a 'living' room, a 'kitchen' (sorry, no hot plate), and a bedroom set at back of building overlooking the U-Haul lot next door. Efficient check in and my back didn't ache the next morning, which is a sign that the mattress is decent.

We stayed in an upgraded king bed room on the office side of the inn. Good value, decent room but who needs a big room when your at the beach all day!? Minutes walking to boardwalk or downtown! Safe location, mini Mart next door, and cute little hot tub. In the summer, there tends to be a lot of the younger crowd but we don't mind! I would stay here again!

Our one night stay at the Continental Inn was the bargain of our trip around California. The welcome was warm, the room was clean and comfortable, the location was convenient for a walk downtown and overall we look back and remember this place with affection. We would certainly stay there again and recommend it to other travellers too. Breakfast was included and we paid 76 dollars including taxes.
There is a jacuzzi pool but we didn't try it!

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room, there is some traffic noise but it didn't concern us.

They had given us the wrong room but I went back to the desk and they fixed it quickly. The room was super clean and everything seemed new. The beds were a little uncomfortable and the TV wouldn't turn on but we would stay again. Free big breakfast was a plus, lots to choose from.
