We stayed for ten days at the Cypress Cottage, and we had an amazing time. The location was excellent, we practically did not need the car at all. I attended UCSC 15 years ago, and this is the first time I take my kids to Santa Cruz on vacation. We visited friends and the Boardwalk in the past, but this time I was going to show them all that the area has to offer. Traveling with two 14 years old--my daughter and a friend--and my 8 year old son, I naturally tended towards a place with NO internet access and NO TV, such as the Cypress cottage. We had an option to stay at a West Cliff Drive property with hot tub, but this ended up being much better. Not only it is only one block to the beach, but also only two blocks to the Boardwalk, allowing the teen-agers a little freedom to come and go on a safe path at night. The best restaurants, cafes, and bars are all within a block, and the house it's walking distance to the Crow's Nest--a beautiful walk over the harbour to their Thursday night "BBQ on the beach" event.
The house is definitely historic in its architecture, and a little funky, a little crooked, floors are a little slanted, as it must be about 100 years old, but very charming and cozy. The backyard and front yard are big and private and well maintained.
There were a few items missing from the kitchen when we arrived, but William was very prompt in providing them at my request.
We had a great time and we will definitely be back.
