Cons: We were supposed to have a queen sized bed and ours was not. We are both tall, but slender so that worked OK for us, but not what was advertised. No bath either, just a shower, and the room wasn't warmed up. We arrived cold and it took some time for the heat to begin to warm the room up. No coffee or facility to make it or tea, which is unusual for a B&B place, but easy walk to downtown. (Some cold drinks in frig were a plus.)
Pros: Great atmosphere. Lovely garden. Great location, only 4 blocks to downtown. Easy access to restaurants. Exceptional effort in giving information, all left in the room. Breakfast was decent continental with thought for variety. Organic strawberries were very appreciated. Clean except for our bedroom windows, which is no big deal. Parking was easy, access from highway very easy, and quiet location even though very close to Mission (very busy road), its tucked away, and private. We would easily stay here again, and recommend this place.

Room Tip: They have a room up steps, so if you are mobile challenged, make sure to request one of the downstai...

Thank you for taking the time to review the Adobe. So pleased you had a comfortable stay and would recommend us to your friends. Just want to correct one item in your review and review title. All the beds at the Adobe are Queen size beds. We have just one bed size and they are Queen beds. You say you were promised a Queen bed and received something smaller. However, as the owner I purchased those beds and I purchase all the linens for them and its impossible for you to get anything other than a Queen bed because that is all we have in every room. Thanks for staying with us and thanks for your review.

The adobe was the best! So comfortable, and the attention to detail was great. Loved the birds having breakfast with us. The breakfast was excellent. The felling that it was "our" place for the day was a refreshing change. Thanks Brion.

Our stay here was perfect. The hosts were super helpful in getting us sorted and it was a lovely private retreat in a gorgeous lush garden. The location is perfect, the beds were super comfortable and it was very clean and accommodated all of our needs. To stay anywhere else in Santa Cruz would be a real missed opportunity for rest and relaxation.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Adobe and loved the mini private entrance right next to parking.

We stayed for just one night at Adobe on Green St. and stayed at the Fireside room. Though we did not get to meet them, hosts were very responsive and provided us with every conceivable information we might need -- from choices for getting to their place from San Francisco airport (we chose the scenic route of course) to how to get to their place, keys, restaurants (rich descriptions and all). Room and bath were comfortable, quiet, spic n span clean, breakfast was generously varied, delicious and best part was also watching the wonderful variety of plants and birds through the breakfast nook windows. Very highly recommended!

Stayed in the Retreat Room for three nights mid week in September. The website is a full disclosure of what to expect and not expect. It was completely accurate and honest. The room was comfortable and quiet. The continental breakfast was a good stat to the morning. The owners were out of sight and never seen and that was refreshing and different. The grounds are very nice with on sight parking which in Santa Cruz is a huge bonus. Easy walk to downtown and a doable walk to the boardwalk. Excellant recommendations of places to eat on the website and in the book in the room. Would definately stay here on our next visit to Santa Cruz.

The Adobe on Green Street was everything it was advertised to be-- beautiful, peaceful, and private. We loved the gardens, and all the birds to watch. Our room was very clean and comfortable. Easy walk to restaurants, and not too far to walk to the beach. Thank goodness for the cold drinks in the fridge when we got back from our walks! We stayed two nights and enjoyed it all. My husband said it was the best place to be in Santa Cruz, and I agree.

Room Tip: The Old Adobe Room was great! Beautiful bathroom. Private entrance.

Fireside room, 3 night stay

The "hosts" are even more hidden away than the inn; this obscurity of place is fine as
the emphasis is on quiet and privacy. The grounds, the common rooms, the inn policies and guest rooms certainly create a sense of serenity and romance. There is a high level of attention to detail in things small and large (e.g . directions to downtown complete with map, two suitcase stands, a good in-room clock radio, an informative guide book, well marked parking areas, plenty of inside & outside lounging areas, etc). The room and inn were very clean; room cleaning was
thorough on the day it was requested. The Fireside room was way cozy with a just enough maneuvering room; it does have a roomy bath with separate jetted tub and shower. The downside of this room is the tiny table for eating, reading, or( dare we say) working and the lack of any "easy" chair.
.
The main negatives: no opportunity to interact with the owners/manager; the breakfast, though good, is the same each day; and, while close to downtown is not convenient to the beach.
We get that the goal is to emphasize personal privacy and strengthen the relationship one
arrives with. However, there is no way that "hosting" by memo, directive, and opinion can replace even a small dose of human interaction. We found that the author(s) of the inn guidebook recognize that this inn may not "work" for all and even suggest local alternatives for future visits; we would likely exercise such an option on a return to Santa Cruz.

Thanks for staying at the Adobe on Green Street on your visit to Santa Cruz. We are so pleased you found it clean, serene, romantic, and with attention paid to all large and small details.

When my wife and I travel we don’t typically stay in B&Bs. We are private people and the forced chit-chat of most inns keeps us away.

When we opened the Adobe our goal was to create a beautiful place for visitors like us.....people who appreciate interesting small properties.....but with the privacy and independence we look for when we travel.

I’m pleased to say we have found our niche. 50% of our guests every night are return guests. There are a lot more people like us out there then we thought, particularly young people.

I remember my parents loved staying at B&Bs. They looked forward to meeting the innkeepers and having long conversations at breakfast. Fortunately for them and for you a majority of B&Bs are operated this way. We are not trying to change innkeeping for all inns. We are just trying to create one place out of many that offers something different in the marketplace. We have created a more private and independent B&B alternative for folks out there like us...introverts on vacation.
