Water is gorgeous, surfers are gorgeous (real surfer dudes - from places like Hawaii, Australia, Japan. Fun. Scenery to die for. You can walk along path right beside cliff overlooking ocean, bicycle same. One of my favorite spots, definitely
Great view by car, bike, or walking. You can see a lot of surfers, birds and other sea life. Great spot to hang out and take photos! I would recommend this area for anyone who is new to the area.
Beautiful cliff top walk with amazing views of cliffs. We saw 4 or 5 sea otters, pelicans and lots of people out surfing. Well worth doing and best of all it's free!!!
walk or drive to experience a beautiful photo op and best of all it's free! only a few minutes north of Santa Cruz
My son and I walked part of the drive during a visit to Santa Cruz. It was fun to watch the surf and the surfers. We actually did not get to see much in the way of wildlife except for a heron that posed for us. But the views were very pretty. We walked part of the way and then returned to the boardwalk to play minigolf.
West Cliff Drive is perfect for a sceinic drive by or a more leisurely walk, skate, bike or segway. You'll see lots of wildlife (harbor seals, sea lions, pelicans, seagulls and other birds, sea otters and less ocassionally dolphin or sharks along with lots of surfers, SUP and kayak enthusiasts. All are fun to watch - just keep back from the cliff edges and be safe.
At the north end of the dirve is Natural Bridges with a must see Monarch Butterfly stop if you are there in October, and there's year round access to some of the best tide pool viewing with easy beach access. At the southern end of the drive is the beach boardwalk and municipal pier with great sea lion viewing, restaurants, touristy shops etc.
