“Rinconada Mine”
Reviewed 19 November 2012

This is an old mine site on the Rinconada trail on the way to Pozo Saloon. The mine is placarded for no access but plenty people go anyway. Please keep kids under control. The trail is good well marked and the views are spectacular.

“Interesting site, short hike”
Reviewed 5 January 2009

We recently visited this mine. This is an abandonded mercury mine. The site was cleaned-up by the EPA years ago, but much of the old equipment remains. Up the hill from the equipment are several deep cuts in the earth and a humongous hole in the ground. The edges of this hole are VERY unstable and are ready to fall in, take extreme caution! (in fact, it looks like a large portion of the side fell in recently) . The hole is quite deep and tunnels can be seen extending off in several directions. The area is a popular with the horse riding crowd. Also good trails for hiking and bike riding. There is a nice parking lot at the trail head.
