Although it was very crowded on a Tuesday afternoon when we visited, it was well worth it! There is parking right by the pier for $14. Follow the signs! Since there are no other fees to pay unless you want to, I felt this was a good deal as it is literally to the side of the pier. Very convenient! Yes, there are people trying to sell you items on the pier in addition to actual vendors that pay to sell on the pier, but we weren't bothered by it as it's all part of the experience, The rides were for littler ones, maybe 8 and under so my teen boys did not ride them. There are vendor trucks and few restaurants on the pier, but so many more to the sides of the pier off the beach and just over the pier bridge. I loved that you could sit on the beach and get great pics of the pier from it. We put our feet in the water, but there were many people swimming and boarding ...but it was cold water as expected! There are so may great pic opportunities everywhere you go here.

We walked around, sat on the beach for 45 mins and enjoyed lunch outside. Were were here for about 2 1/2 hrs. I could have stayed longer!

I hope the details in my review were helpful.

Santa Monica pier is great for kids and family.
A lot of rides and games to entertain them. We got some ice cream on the pier and sat watching the sunset over the pier.

Santa Monica Pier is a "must-visit" when you're in the area. There is a ferris wheel, carousel, trapeeze, places to eat, things to buy and great views. You can walk up to 3rd street from it and find lovely shopping. Go early to get parking. You can rent scooters, bicycles etec to ride the boardwalk - even to go Venice from here.

Of course you need to do the trip if you are in LA but join it up with Venice beach
Unless you want to spend the day at the beach sun bathing or going for a swim , you can knock it over in 2 hours add extra time if you want lunch, plenty of course

We wanted to at least see the Santa Monica Pier once, so that is where we headed to. It what one can expect it to be:) Lots of, loads of, tourists like us. All walking around having fun sitting in the sun. Taking a drink selfies, grabbing a bite and just do nothing. We did not feel like going to the beach here so we only walked to the end of the pier and left after a while. Oter thing to check of our bucket list!
