Wow, what a place! From the lobby to the porch restaurant and rooms, they didn't miss a beat in Santa Monica. The rooms are an ideal size, great big bathroom and location, location, location. I felt like such a princess eating breakfast every morning, with or without clients, overlooking the Santa Monica pier! Priceless...you'll love it, it's the kind of hotel you wouldn't mind living in it so beautiful...the staff is great also as I got a migraine and they delivered advil...at 4a.m....how nice is that! Enjoy

In LA for business and this was a great reprieve from a hectic schedule. Had a fantastic ocean front view with a large room and nice amenities. Staff was so pleasant and concierge was helpful and knowledgeable- even greated me by name! Too bad it was cloudy- would have enjoyed using pool and access to beach. A breakfast meeting was easy and service very attentive! I'll stay again!

I stayed in the Loews Hotel Santa Monica Beach from March 14th until March 15th 2014. My reservation was taken on the mobile website on March 12th for a Double your sunset rate. I got an E-Mail for an eUpgrade to a Grand Guestroom, that I confirmed and got back. It said, that the availibility would be checked at arrival.

The personal service in this hotel was one of the worst I ever had to experience (and I travel a lot in Europe).

From the check-in at the front desk until our check-out, almost everything went wrong.

First:
The lady at the check-in (dark hair) at 3.30 pm could not find my reservation first. Then she put in the wrong name (XXX-mamm) instead of XXX-mann. She did not know that I booked a Double you sunset rate, with an extra voucher over 75$ for the spa. I had to ask for the eUpgrade, because she didn´t know. The she gave us a room on the first floor. When I got to the room, it was like sitting directly on the street. I went back and told the lady, that this is not the right room for the last day of my three week honeymoon vacation. So she gave us a suite on the 7th floor (room nr. 745) for 75$ on top. The total prize at check-out was 700$. I asked if this room would have a patio. Of course, she said. I suggested that the patio is furnished. It was not.

Second: So we finally came to the room (745). First thing was to try out the complementary WiFi. I did not work. I called the Loews hotline. The technican found out, that my name was spelled wrong... (I booked via E-Mail with my E-Mail adress and full name)...

Third: The next day we went to the pool to enjoy the good weather and stretch our muscles before the 12h transatlantic flight and to enjoy our late check-out. When I went to the room around 1 pm the room card did not work anymore. I went to the reception (and this is a looong way) to tell the front desk that the room card does not work anymore. Mr. Cortez asked me for an ID (which is of security reason ok). I came from the pool, so my ID is in the room, I replied. A security guy accompanied me to the room. When I was in the room the frontdesk called. When is your check-out the guy asked me? (Shouldnt he know this better from his sytems?!?) Meanwhile I got a little angry about this a five-star-luxury hotel. The guy (I think it was Mr. Cortez) yelled at me, when my check-out would be. I told him that I booked a Double your sunset rate with check-out a 6 pm and where the problem is. 10 Minutes later he called again and apologized because he now found, that we had a late check-out.

There was no apologies at check-out anything. Mr. Cortez didn´t ask how our stay was. I´m glad he did not. Otherwise I would have exploded.

Finally and that is the best: I wrote this text to the compliant website of Loews International 10 days ago. Not a single message until today. That´s what I expect from a luxury five star hotel charging 700$ for one night.

PLEASE MR. General Manager of Loews Santa Monica: DO NOT REPLY HERE. I want my compliant E-Mail to Loews on the website to be answered.

If you are looking for a hotel in Santa Monica go somewhere else. The Loews is not worth the money, beside the terrible service. The Shore Hotel is more central and there are several hotels around which are way cheaper...

I was on a 2 week trip and over that time I stayed in 7 hotels. The Lowes Santa Monica was the most expensive of the 7 and the least impressive. The location is what you are paying for. The rooms are small and tired. They charge guests for every little "extra". It is a business hotel that caters to expense accounts. So many choices in the area - there is a reason it is not rated highly on trip advisor - will definitely stay somewhere else the next time I'm in the area.

Very nice room but they charge for everything from fitness center, coffee in the lobby and coffee in the room was limited. Price of room was costly to be able to have free fitness and lobby coffee. Room was very clean and top notch as you would expect for the price. Was able to check in early, but when called the night before, was told no options were available to check in early. Parking attendants are efficient and very helpful.

I have recently found the hotel is continually "over committed" so if your room has a whining air vent or a wet carpet your are stuck for the night. This, after you have waited hours to check in because check-in is at 4pm and at that hour "all the other rooms have been assigned". Really? As a business traveler this is way too much too deal with. Shutters and their sub par gym rocks over this frustration experience.

Room Tip: ask for high floor away from water pumps and if you want a room before 4pm book the night before.

This hotel is so beautiful. We had a beach front room with balcony. The staff was very helpful and our room was ready when we arrived at 9am. A little pricey but it's nice to splurge every now and then!
