The Ambrose offers a residential experience with a helpful and friendly staff, many of whom are European. Our room had both a balcony and sizable patio with a view of the Pacific. These were comfortable and very relaxing accommodations and a welcome escape from the rest of our hectic - but fun(!) - trip to the AFI Fest in November.
There are any number of wonderful breakfast spots in Santa Monica, but we preferred the ease and serenity of the continental breakfast offered in the lobby. We would take our fruit and coffee out to the walled Japanese garden in front of the hotel and enjoy the fresh air, koi pond, and distant sounds of the city. My only criticism is that the breakfast should be offered longer for those of us traveling from NYC on eastern standard time. We had to rush to breakfast so as not to miss it.
The Ambrose is also very conveniently located. The various neighborhoods of Santa Monica are all close by as is Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice. The dining in this area is fantastic - trendy and delicious.
Though we didn't use the free car service, the Ambrose's car and driver were a lovely addition to the hotel's personal offerings.
The hotel's environmentally-conscious practices were an additional reason that I would stay at the Ambrose again in a heartbeat. I have already recommended the Ambrose to all of my friends.More
