A quiet garden with water flowing and Bamboo greets you as you enter the Ambrose. The decor is rustic asian. The room we had was small but beautiful and cozy...not you average bland hotel room. The bedding was soft and inviting.The room had all we needed including a small desk, comfy chair, nice entertainment unit, and a great little balcony with two chairs and a small table.

The Ambrose hotel used to be a cutting edge tasteful hotel... it is now dated, the interiors need updating, lighter colors and even fresh flowers.... and the management needs to polish their services. The sheets used to be Matteo, bathroom products were Aveda. Now they have average sheets and bath products. Mediocre experience.

We stayed here on our family trip to LA. We wanted one room to fit ourselves and our 2 teenage children. It was a nice size room for us and we enjoyed the breakfast. But they need more tables and chairs for guests to enjoy the breakfast. Breakfast is very crowded and the buffet area is very small. It's not close to the downtown hollywood attractions. But we enjoyed time in Santa Monica.

We booked a premier king room and had requested for a balcony room. We didn't get one and this unavailability was not informed to is upon check in. I had asked for a change of room, the front desk said she needed to check with the front office manager and will call me back. Waited and waited, she never called back. I called them, no answer the first time. 2nd call, one of the front desk agents told me that they didn't have anymore rooms with a balcony.

The trash in the room was not thrown away, left by the previous guest. Gross! I had to hunt down a housekeeper to come and take it away.

The bed sunk and was very uncomfortable. I had a backache the morning after.

We ordered a chicken quesadilla and it was horrible! There were hardly any chicken in there. Whatever pieces of chicken were in there, they tasted old and funky! We paid $17 for a small quesadilla which was not edible!

The location was ok, close to shops and a drive away from the beach. They had a free shuttle service but we didn't use it because it stops at 10pm and we wanted to be at the pier for a little later than 10pm.

Parking was $20, kinda expensive.

Breakfast was great. Fresh pastries and the breakfast lady was very hardworking! She made sure everything was replenished in a timely manner.

Overall, ok stay. The hotel needs to pay a little more attention to detail when it comes to guest needs etc.

We attempt to exceed every guest expectation on every stay and I am terribly sorry that this did not happen for you during a sold out situation. We try to balance the needs of all our guest room type requests, and are limited to the availability at the time of your arrival.

We promise to do a better job of this for your future stays.

Cozy, quaint and very friendly. I loved how every single person who worked there greeted the guests and each other with smiles, hellos, good mornings, etc. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 star is that they are still working through some renovation issues. I will be back for sure!
