The view from this spot is great, watching planes take off, and not a bit of noise. The resto itself is asian cuisine and good, novel, but not great, but it does not matter, because it is such an interesting place to go, and the drinks and wine lists are also very good. What makes this place special, in addition to it being hidden away at the airport, is the music that is offered. Not just jazz, but blues, rand b etc and a place to dance. I have been there twice now, and both times the music has been fabulous. I heard the Mann sextet last night, which is one of those typical musicians get together to play, and the results were great. All top musicians with other gigs, and a chance to hear some really great jazz, especially cover arrangements by Paul McDonald (the keyboardist) of things like moaning, put it where you want it (Joe Sample), some Duke Ellington, Clare Fisher, etc. The sextet is composed of a bassist, drummer, saxc, trombone and trumpet, and a singer, Lauren Koval was also added to the mix. She is a great big band singer.... Hint for the group...do an arrangement of "you turned the tables on me " for her.

I attended a dual 90th birthday party in their function space. The airport directional signage to the restaurant is good and the parking is plentiful. The staff was very welcoming. The buffet food - with asian twists - was as good as buffet food is going to be. What sets the place apart is the room was full of natural light streaming in from all-around windows, a large outside deck, and waiters with drinks and tasty hors d'ouevres who greeted all the guests as they entered. The staff was beyond helpful, friendly, courteous and polite. There were over fifty guests and you still felt "cared for". Typhoon has been there for a while and it deserves to be.

Do not judge a book by its cover! Decor and location were excellent. Unfortunately the meals and service were just average. They offered a Tuna Tartar appetizer which was to die for if you like that sort of dish. However, Pad Tai and Shrimp/Scallop dinners were something to be desired. The MaiTai was just horrible. Not even sure how you can ruin a simplistic coctail. Oh well, the lack of people inside should have been my clue. This restsraunt is not your best dining choice in Santa Monica.

Monday nights this place has some amazing live jazz! The food is OK and some is a bit too exotic for me to have tried (i.e., insects) but the drinks are good. For a wonderful night of big jazz music, this place is simply unbeatable.

This restauarant is situated right next to the runway at Santa Monica CA general aviation airport.
While having a great meal you can watch small planes and private jets take off and land. The food is Pacific Rim cuisine...foods from the Phillipines, Japan, Korea, Thailand, etc. Also a few exotic bugs on the menu! Last night we went before sunset so we could watch the planes. We started with the Thai sausage which was very authentic to what I've eaten and loved in Northern Thailand. It is served with fresh cabbage, peanuts, thai chilis and lime...oh, so yummy! We also ordered the whole fried catfish cooked with a black bean sauce, crispy and melt in your mouth at the same time. The small order was plenty for 3 people. Along with that we tried the garlic noodles and the wok stirred fresh veggies. A delicious meal. I look forward to going back.
