“Not as expected”
Reviewed 25 March 2014 credit card Amex Cardmember Review

having to been many of the best restaurants in the world, and having never been to Melisse, which is literally in our backyard, I had great expectations.

Additionally, I've only written one negative review on TA.

The service was not what you'd expect from a two star restaurant. The food was mediocre. I had the Rack of lamb, which was literally two sliced pieces. (A rack normal includes the bones?) Even though the presentation was always two people for the two of us, we were never quite sure who our "server" was. Not only that, but no one ever asked how our meal was.

A big surprise was at table next to us, when they got the chocolate sundae dessert, which isn't even on the menu. It was a beautiful presentation, and looked amazing!

For $350, I'm not sure we'll be back.

“A World Class Experience”
Reviewed 22 March 2014

Even though Michelin only rated LA once Melisse got two stars. It still merits them.

The entire experience was as polished, elegant and intoxicatingly delicious as only the best restaurants can manage.

Dress up a bit, enjoy the wine list and luxuriate in deep quality.

“Just a little door...to heaven!”
Reviewed 19 March 2014

Last October we went to California to celebrate our 15th anniversary and we dined at Melisse! What a treat! We had the ten course menu and every bite was heavenly! Certainly one of the best meals I ever had in my life!

“Food, Service, Ambiance, ALL PERFECT”
Reviewed 15 March 2014

My partner and I mad e booking to eat here on our holiday from Australia back in November (a little slow catching up on TA).

Our primary server was fantastic. Attentive, polite, without being intrusive throughout the meal. He spoke with us about what we wanted for a wine, and really helped find one that satisfied both of our pallets, despite us having slightly different likes when it comes to wine.

We had the Carte Blanche Menu, knowing we were in for an experience as well as a meal.

We mentioned how we had tried a delicious truffle dish elsewhere the night before, and he brought us an extra course from the chef made for us, a truffle risotto.

At the end of the night, he brought us a signed message from the chef, on the wine label that he had steamed off the bottle and laminated for us to remember the night.

Every dish was creative, and delicious.

The night made good dent on the credit card, but iwe had no regrets about going. It's one of the memories from a great holiday that we will talk about for the rest of our lives.

“Ridiculously Expensive, Ridiculously Worth It”
Reviewed 6 March 2014

Hands down one of the most exquisite dining experiences you will ever have. The food is decadent, only to be topped by the extensive wine list, which is only to be topped by the outstanding service.

If you are going to come to an establishment of this level, check your inhibitions at the door and do the 10-course tasting menu. You'll have an amazing experience never thought possible. There's no way I would have ever ordered a soft poached egg (served in the shell), with lemon creme fraiche, topped off with caviar, and eaten with a flaky, buttermilk biscotti-- indescribable.

The entire menu is amazing, and they have probably the best wine library in LA. But the service is what completely puts this over the top. You'll be waited on hand and foot.

The bill will be large, and you may die a little inside when you hand over your credit card, but it is completely worth it. This is not an every day, every month or (probably) every year type of establishment. But save those pennies. You don't come here for a meal; you come here for an experience.
