We had breakfast at Shoop's this morning. It was recommended as a place that had "good, hearty meals" and it certainly did. The menu offered a ton of choices, including pancakes, wraps, omelettes, and basic bacon and eggs. Though I was tempted by the pancakes made with crumbled bacon, I had the bacon and eggs which were cooked the way I like and very tasty. The side of potatoes was fried in garlic butter (yummmm) and delicious. My wife had smoked salmon with her eggs and it was great. Our meals, not including tax and tip, totaled $24 -- very reasonable in Santa Monica, where it seems you get charged just to breathe.
The dining area was pretty small and compact, but folks were able to get in and around with no trouble. The server was attentive, quite friendly and pleasant. The food arrived hot and just a few minutes after we ordered. The menus were clean (something that many restaurants don't seem to understand is important) though I noticed the floor needed to be swept (we arrived in late morning so there could have been an early rush).
All in all, Shoop's is a nice place, a good value, and I am sure we will come back.
