Ocean Luxury Lofts & Suites
Reviewed 11 November 2013

I stayed here with a friend in September 2013. The location was incredible, right across from the Santa Monica Pier, couldn't get any better! Unfortunately that's where the praise ends. The air conditioning didn't work which meant we had to sleep with the windows open... not typically an issue however the room we stayed in (202) is directly above a bar which was open until all hours of the morning so we didn't get a lot of sleep. The decor was very dated and we could not get a good signal on the Wifi. Location wise it's great but do not be fooled by the use of "Luxury" in the name.

Room Tip: Avoid room 202

You cannot beat the location across from the pier and close to shopping areas. However we were in room 202 just above the club and next to the bus stop. The noise is deafening especially at weekends when it goes on until 2 am. Thursday with live music is also particularly loud. The buses run all night. The room was spacious but decor is very tired and the cooker was ancient. The photographs do not show the age and condition of the furniture. The air conditioning did not work which meant we had to have the windows open. No maid service every day. Probably good if you were a group,of young people staying out late.

Room Tip: Avoid the second floor and ask for rooms at the back as that would be away from the club and noise o...

Do NOT stay here. I never write reviews, but I had to share this one because I don't want anyone else to have the experience I had.

While staying here someone broke into our apartment in the middle of the night, while me and two of my roommates were sleeping, and stole $3000 worth of electronics. The thief was less than six feet away from all of us.

The locks on the doors are sketchy--the one on ours popped unlocked if you jiggled it the right way. The building is "protected" by an access code (which the landlord told us he changed every day--yet when he gave it to us, the code was the same as it had been last year when my friend stayed here), but after someone broke in, he told us that there are people who work at the surrounding restaurants that have access to the building without the code.

He didn't change the code. He didn't fix the locks.

He goes by the name "Silvio," but gave the police a completely different name when we made the report. I asked him to replace my stuff since the locks were so awful and the code hadn't been changed in a year--he said that it "wasn't an option." When we told him we didn't feel safe staying there (he offered to move us to a different room, but what good would that do when the locks were crappy, the code hasn't been changed in a year, and plenty of people have access even without the code?), he said, "I disagree." At best not a good businessman, at worst, shady.

As for the apartment itself: yes, the "air bnb certified" pictures are of the apartments, but the apartments in those pictures are in a much better condition than they are now. We were greeted with the stench of something gross and moldy, and our friends staying in the apartment next door had an even worse smell.

There's a hostel around the corner that has rooms for rent--if you're looking for a safe, cheap option, go there. If you're looking for "luxury," or even just a safe place to stay, protect yourself--don't stay here.
