We were two for dinner at Busby's on a Sunday afternoon in June to watch an NBA playoff game. Busby's is a former restaurant/bar that was retro-fitted with a dozen (or more) flat screen tv's, ping pong and pool tables, pinball and other games to be a sports restaurant/bar. The Good; the food is very good. Appetizers included chicken quesadillas and a sampler platter. Entrees included seafood dishes, pasta and salads. Hot dishes were served fresh and hot. The Bad; during a busy playoff-basketball afternoon, Busby's had one server tending to too many customers. She did a heroic job, but no one could service all these customers. People were frustrated at drinks going unfilled and food coming late. The Bad; smoking was not allowed in the restaurant, but cigarette smoke coming from the front open-area porch wafted through the restaurant and was commented on by other patrons. The smell was a definite turn off to non-smokers. The odd; Busby's had a DJ playing loud music from the 70's and 80's during TV commercials.
So, very good food was offset by short handed service and cigarette smoke adding up to an average rating for Busby's in Santa Monica
