“Charming hotel, great location”
Reviewed 31 December 2007

If the location weren't so great, the Georgian would STILL be a find. The staff was sweet as could be; the rooms comfortable and charming with all the original details; the front porch the perfect place to watch a sunset over a nice bottle of Gruet bubbly; and THEN there was the location! As you enjoy the sunset, you look right out over the Pacific. The hotel is walking distance from downtown Santa Monica and close to many great shops, restaurants and yoga studios.

We spent 3 days at the Georgian, and cannot wait to return! The only negative I can even think of, is the wireless did not work in our room (it was quick as can be in the lobby) and our phone wouldn't call outside either.....if it weren't for these glitches, I'd have given it an "excellent."

We had a couple of days in the LA area and wanted to stay near the beach. I lived in LA for years and didn't even know about this hotel. Based on TA reviews, we booked it. The only room options were the Bed and Breakfast, and it was a great choice.

A couple of downsides include: Valet parking only option-- when we arrived around 4pm, there were no valet people, and no parking in front, so we had to park away from the hotel, and get out of the car to ask the desk about parking and they had to walkie talkie a bellman. The bellman informed us that there were busy and that we could leave out car with him. The hotels boasts twice daily service which includes a turndown service. Basically, that included a person knocking on our door carrying a scoop of ice, and asking us if we wanted any. Then she gave us a couple of chocolates. There was no offer of turndown, and we left the room a few times, and no one came to turn down the room. Those were minor compared to the rest of the wonderful stay.

I've read reviews from other reviewers about the bus noise if you get an ocean view. We had a back of the building view, really no view, but it was SOO quiet, that it was a good night's sleep. We sat on the 'infamous' veranda for cocktails before dinner, and the drinks were very good and so was the view.

Breakfast was excellent! They prepare it on the premises. It was all free including the extra side dish I ordered. The staff was more than accomodating. The location across from the Santa Monica Pier and very close to many new restaurants. Definitely worth the $250 we paid!

First, the staff at The Georgian make you feel at home. They are solicitous and do their jobs efficiently and with a smile. I had the Queen Ocean View room, which was beautifully appointed (the bathrooms are fabulously decco), and comfortable and, of course, the view is wonderful. I had the opportunity to see one of their smaller suites, and that was incredible, if you need more room.

The food is great and affordable (the French Toast Souffle is a "must have" in the morning, with the best bacon). Get the package with the complimentary a la carte breakfast.

Overall you feel very well taken care of while there. Santa Monica Pier, the beach, shopping, hair salon (Pomp next door is amazing), restaurants are all within walking distance.

I stayed for 17 days in the hotel and it was an excellent stay, the staffs are fantastic and the room I had (809) was big and cozy.
After one week of staying in the hotel I was told that it is considered to be one of the haunted hotels of America and when I asked the staff they spent 15 minutes telling me stories about some guests encounters with the ghost. If you stay in this hotel as the front desk staff to tell you the stories they heard form guests and also the encounter of some of them with some ghosts.
The downside of the hotel is that the rooms are noisy even on the 8th floor you could hear the street noise and especially the garbage trucks at 7:00 AM. You can also hear all what is happening in the room next to you…another downside is the lack of a descent restaurant but the hotel is surrounded with amazing places where you can eat excellent food.
The breakfast on the terrace is an AMAZING experience and even if you do not stay in this hotel have at least one breakfast on The Georgian terrace
Will definitely stay again in this hotel…

The Georgian is an Art Deco paradise. Built in 1933 and lovingly restored since then so you have all the usual expected mod -cons, some real style and some history. Clark Gable (and the rest) stayed here when Hollywood summers got too hot.

Breakfast on the verandha overlooking the ocean is well worth getting out of bed for. Their baked French toast is pretty good too.

I have stayed there three times so far and, whilst they have never upgraded me yet to an ocean view, they always remember me!

The Georgian is a wonderful place to spend time and visit Southern California. The rooms are exquisite, the view breath-taking and the service is just what you would expect when paying $300 per night or so.

But--I was nickle and dimmed! For example:

1- There is internet in the rooms, but if you are traveling with your spouse or anyone else who also needs to be online at the same time--well--you can't! According to the front desk, this is to limit Internet usage- Only after I told them that this is just unacceptable, I was given an alternate way to access the net.

2- I opted for the bed and breakfast package deal when I booked my ocean front room. So I went down for my breakfast and asked for orange juice--it turns out that if you have a "coupon" then you are only entitled to the small glass of juice and not the regular glass! So I raised a stink and was given the correct juice size.

Now there are some other examples--but given the great service, great rooms, very friendly staff--these things were just annoying and very unbecoming.

I would have given a 4 star (above average) rating, but the nickle and dimming just took the shine out of the experience.
