“Very good manager!”
Reviewed 3 August 2014

We arrived for five nights for a business trip and wanted to stay at a hotel on the beach. We have stayed at the Oceana down the street for the past five years but wanted to try a different hotel and American Express had offered a stay 3 nights get the 4th night free including breakfast so we decided to try it. We are Fairmont Presidents club members and were told we were upgraded to ocean front. We got into the room which was terribly tight - perhaps ok if you are staying for one night but certainly not if you are staying for 5. I showered and the hot/cold diverter kept moving. We tried the internet and it didn't work at the desk. We were running to a meeting and I asked to speak with the manager and told her our concerns. We were there for business and needed the internet. We had stayed at various Fairmonts this summer and thought they would be on par. While we were at our meeting, Stephanie Berman (I'm hoping I'm this is her name) called and told us she had some suggestions for when we returned. We would forgo the ocean front but she offered us a large suite which somehow had much better internet in the older building. The food at FIG was good. The gym was lovely. The car park was fast and efficient. It's quite a scene there as it has one of the most popular drinking spots in SM but somehow it doesn't seem to get in the way of the hotel - unless of course, your room is near the bar. Ms. Berman was incredibly professional and accommodating. We had just driven six hours and were exhausted and upset about the room and she managed to take care of it all.

Room Tip: Be careful of the bar noise. Ocean front rooms in the main hotel are very small.

My wife and I 'upgraded' ourselves to this hotel from the Oceana down the road, where we had not been happy. The Fairmont Miramar suited us much better and was actually a little cheaper, which was a nice surprise.

Our room was big enough and nicely decorated, the bathroom was nice and had very nice toiletries, and our balcony was very usable and had a great view. We enjoyed watching the sunset over the hills from our room, while drinking the bubbly and eating the chocolate covered strawberries we received as a gift from the hotel as we were on our honeymoon.

Breakfast was full service and very nice except that inside they keep the restaurant way too cold. We ate outside after the first day and that was great.

The bell and valet services are spot on and the hotel has a nice big forecourt, so I didn't feel rushed by traffic or congestion when arriving or departing.

The concierge got us a table at Chateau Marmont at short notice. Amazing.

We didn't get to take advantage of the party atmosphere of the terrace bar but it sounded like fantastic fun.

I would certainly stay here again if I got the chance.

Beautiful hotel some lovely staff, gorgeous room, well positioned. Downside came back one night to see a couple near enough shagging on the seat outside the front of hotel next to valet. We had our 12 year old with us. Complained got a verbal apology. Went to the seats outside next to reception, ordered drinks then a group started swearing again we were with out daughter moved inside, full of drunk women who had staggered in, really spoiled our evening. Spoke to the manager Brady I think the next morning got a verbal apology I was as least expecting a complimentary drink to replace the ones that were ruined the night before poor customer service.

Just returned from California and the Fairmont was our last hotel after 10 days from LA to SF and back. Here is my thoughts in point form:

The Good
The location is great just across from the beach within sight of Santa Monica Pier, except if you have to get to a Hollywood reservation at rush hour, 11 miles 1.5 hours. ( the car GPS said 30 min)
The property is really beautiful, waterfalls over pools with koy, small swimming pool with lounge chairs, views of beach and surroundings from high (10) floor were really nice
The staff are all extraordinary from front desk, valet, restaurant and housekeeping.
The amenities in the room are top notch, beds, TV, Nespreso coffee in room.
They do have cars/transport to take you to the beach or shopping close by but we had our own rental car.

Some things to think about
Our room was a nice king bed on a high floor, it was not very spacious, and the area comprising the washroom, entrance door & closet was tight.
Apparently the 10th floor was recently nicely renovated but the rooms had no luggage stands and for two people with two bags precious space was used up with bags on the floor.
There is a new club on the premises which we didn't visit but it is very popular with line ups to get in. My kids who were on the 2nd floor said the music ( bass ) was quite loud at night.
The onsite restaurants are highly rated ( Fig) but we only had a breakfast around the fountains.

The free WiFi ( Fairmont Presidents Club) was probably the slowest we had in our 10 days at 5-6 hotels up and down the coast. Yes you can pay for faster WiFi, but at all other hotels it was free and fast.

Overall a nice place for a short stay, Fairmont's reputation and service make it worthwhile if not inexpensive

Room Tip: Top floor beach view with a small balcony was very nice and quiet at night, maybe they have larger s...

This is an absolutely lovely hotel. I visited for two days on business and enjoyed my stay so much I plan to come back for a weekend break. Staff were charming even when flat out, the food at Fig was delicious, the gym was gorgeous, making full use of the California weather with an indoor-outdoor vibe, and there's a super cool bar with views of the ocean full of beautiful people. Special shout out to amazing client services manager Linda Cru, who went way above and beyond to help me out of a reservation glitch. Love this hotel!

I stayed over at Fairmont Miramar for a good week, and it was all very nice, albeit the decor was a bit shabby considering the price range. The location is nice, right next to the beach although you do need to access it through a walk-about bridge over the Pacific Coast Highway. The shops are some 5-10mins walk away, and Starbucks is almost right on the other side of the road. The hotel offers a good range of services, including a spa, fitness center and some yoga / workout session. A warning for any Europeans though - the american yoga or at least the one practiced here is not so much a serene, relaxing experience but much closer to the regular workout session with some yoga poses instead.
