“Great restaurant and a 100 yards from the Vintners Inn”
Reviewed 31 August 2014

Large selection of interesting things to choose from on the menu, Parking is not a problem. The Facility is quite large but has many smaller areas for a more intimate feel. The facilities are first class and our entrees were quite good and more than ample.

“Attractive place, nice views, good food”
Reviewed 30 August 2014 via mobile

The service, food and setting were very good. My husband and I ate dinner early on a Friday night and we enjoyed it, but there are a few things to know. As the place filled up, it got crowded and fairly loud quickly. Portions are large and the courses are served pretty close together for what I expected from a restaurant like this -a little more leisure would have been good. Based on the menu, I also wouldn't recommend this for small children.

I've been here several times. I've had dinner and also happy hour. The food is wonderful, the service is great. The bar is very nice and has a great atmosphere. So if you are looking for a intimate dinner I would suggest this place.

“This was an opportunity to see a seasoned Chef at the top of his game!”
Reviewed 26 August 2014

As part of our wine country tour of northern Sonoma, the four of us stayed in Santa Rosa. Based upon reviews from Trip Advisor and other popular sites, I chose John Ash & Co for our only "going out" meal (we cooked in the other nights of our stay). When I made the reservation, I indicated that we wanted the tasting menu. Unfortunately, our hostess explained that they really did not offer that dining option. There was obvious disappointment around our table. Our server, Trish, offered to go and talk to Chef Thomas Schmidt. She came back with a big smile and the excellent news that Chef Schmidt was already starting to prepare our menu and was outside picking fresh figs for the amuse brioche.

Many chefs are offering tasting menus. They are usually planned ahead with the general menu and ingredients serving as the foundation for alternate dishes.

This was an outstanding meal by a very gifted chef whose creations mirrored his farm to table approach...one of his assistants is designated the Culinary Gardener. Chef Schmidt took the time to come to our table to explain each dish that he prepared. He was gracious and radiated a tremendous pride in his ingredients. The proteins were of the highest quality and the produce was in season and at peak flavor. His classic techniques and creativity were excellently shown in his sauces and platings.

On this trip, I also reviewed Lusk 25. Although that was an excellent meal, our experience at John Ashford & Co. was that one level higher for quality, experience and ambiance due to Chef Schmidt's attention to detail. Our server, Trish, was friendly, personable and again, generated an almost old world charm in her interactions with us.

“Beautiful setting, great food”
Reviewed 21 August 2014

Great sommelier, wonderful service, and best of all, fantastic food! Loved the half portion option on some menu items - just the right amount to leave room for dessert. Which was also fantastic.

We were seated on the patio (with clever louvered glass windows) and got to see the wildlife come out at dusk.
