The menu is extensive and eclectic. The burger menu has some of the strangest combinations I've ever seen like the burger with giant prawns and aoli. The standard menu has appetizers from hummus to spring rolls. The diner menu ranges from lamb to duck to beef.

The wine list is extensive and locally focused.

Prices are very reasonable and service is excellent.

Net net: Stop by if you are in the area. You won't be disappointed.

We visited twice while in Santa Rosa this last week. We first ate breakfast there joining some relatives one morning. The server was extremely attentive and the food was excellent. I had a light breakfast and it was top quality. We ate on a workday about 8:30 am and the bistro wasn't crowded at all.

Later that evening, we went downtown for the Market Festival and stopped in to eat again. This time we sat outside so we could hear one of the bands playing at the festival. We did have a couple of problems that evening. Our server was not very proficient in English and botched our order even after we explained it over and over. The food wasn't bad; it just wasn't what we ordered. It came down simply that she could not speak our own native language well. We ordered a pizza. They had a mushroom pizza and a sausage pizza on the menu. We asked to have a mushroom and sausage pizza and she said that would be fine and did we want to make them a "combo". We said not "the combo" but just a pizza with mushrooms and sausage. What we got was "The Combo" with onions and pepperoni and we didn't enjoy it at all. Sure, we could have sent it back but we scraped the other stuff off and ate a few slices but left over half.

The food there is very good and we would go back. But, if we had the option of the same female server, we would ask for another table. We would also make sure that our order is read back to us.

That said, it is a charming little bistro on the end of the square.

Chef Charles Downing is a charming and genuinely modest GENIUS, who, daily, produces a personal, heartfelt, rustic cuisine that straddles the hills and valleys of Italy while being informed by the classic techniques, sauces and sensibility of France.

Not stuffy, overly precious or pretentious. Everything from the friendly welcome by Greg (the Perfect Host), to the careful service and flavor-packed, imaginative dishes combine to make this restaurant one to refresh your joie de vivre and your soul as well as your stomach.

The wines, as the locally sourced and produced foods, are all carefully chosen and are very reasonably priced with many local, hard-to-find choices.

As a dining experience, it is, simply put, the greatest value (enjoyment for the dollar) in the state. A Real Treasure, it is, itself, worth a trip to Santa Rosa, especially for the 5-course, wine-paired Friday dinners at $49.95.

No matter where you call home, you will wish, as I, that FLAVOR were a part of it. And you will leave with a renewed sense of what an Honest Man can do with Local Ingredients, Passion For His Profession and Love.

You have to go here. You just have to. Sit at the bar if you can, you can watch them make the appetizers and desserts.

I love that you can get 3 oz. pours here. We ordered appetizer after appetizer and paired each one with a 3 oz. glass of wine. Everything was top notch.

Highly recommend the smoked salmon appetizer!

Talk about generous portions! If my Chicken, sausage, and beans meal was any larger, I could feed a scout troop. Problem is that they would be back for more. When you are on the road and cannot take leftovers home, you had better better be prepared to gain weight or leave food behind. The Polenta Gorgonzola appetizer is excellent. As is the service.

You can dine al fresco is you get there early enough or want to wait. Excellent wine list.
