This is the second time we've stayed at Fountain grove and we were once again impressed with the simplicity and beauty of our room. We had to change our reservation by one night...no problem...came in tired and we were offered a room upgrade! Very much appreciated. We even found a Trader Joe's very close by. This is a great place to stay while journeying along the 101.

I spent one night in this hotel, after a tour of the Napa Valley. The hotel itself is not bad: modern, clean, a pleasant pool; rooms are large and confortable, and the bed is very good.

But the hotel is in the middle of nowhere, and you will need a car to go anywhere. Better to know before you chose it.

I booked this hotel after shopping around for lodging in the Santa Rosa and Sonoma areas. This was our first trip to Sonoma Valley wine country, and the Fountaingrove Inn was convenient in the sense that it was near the 101, so we could head north to Healdsburg or south to Sonoma without too much trouble.

The room itself was nice enough - clean and comfortable with the expected amenities. Sound insulation between rooms was a bit lacking as we heard other guests in neighboring rooms who seemed to be speaking in a regular tone of voice. Also, as mentioned in other reviews, we were not really able to open the drapes completely as the room was directly facing the parking lot.

One service issue of note was that we left a bottle of wine in the in-room refrigerator, and after returning at night found that it had disappeared. The night clerk was very hesitant to offer any compensation and repeatedly attempted to refer me to the cleaning staff manager. Eventually he did acquiesce and offered to comp us brunch for our troubles.

The Equus brunch was adequate - about what one would expect for a mostly buffet-style brunch - and the servers were courteous and attentive, though we were one of only several patrons that particular morning.

Overall, we found the Fountaingrove Inn to be acceptable (save for the missing wine), but did not find any aspects of the establishment that truly were impressive.

We booked this room because we want our toddler to sleep with us so we picked the king room rather than the double queen. First, when we checked in, the staff gave us keys to a room that still have people inside. Imagine our -- and their -- surprise as we walked in on them! Not cool!! Then we went back and got the king-size room. Well, when we walked in, we thought it was a single. So we went back to the counter yet again for another room. To our surprise (yet again), the staff said that room indeed was a king size room -- just "california king". It was pure BS. We even "measured" the bed with our body length, the bed is just another queen. I complained to the staff, and he just "shrugged", explaining that his "computer" stated it was a king room.

The room was clean in general, but NEVER NEVER get the king room because it's not a king-size bed. Very disappointed.

The hotel has no elevator, but you can drive around to the back and get to the second floor that way. For this reason the hotel has some motel drawbacks. Parking lot noise was noticable from our room because the parking lot was right outside our window. The "gym" is limited, the pool and hot tub are outside, so we didn't use it in the rain. This is a good hotel, free wifi, nice clean interior and it's been kept up. I don't know what other options would be available in Santa Rosa, but for the price I'd stay here again.
