We enjoyed the location, setting, views, service, wonderful breakfast buffet and overall serenity of this lovely boutique hotel. We'd definitely stay again. Low-key yet luxurious. Not sure if I'd stay here if I was a first time visitor to San Francisco, but since we're from the Bay Area and weren't planning on going into the City while in Sausalito, it was a perfect, quiet, romantic staycation for us.

We had stayed previously at the Gables Inn here in Sausalito, and, wanting another "staycation" that would allow us to catch up on computer-work, we decided to see what made the Inn Above Tide costlier than the Gables. And we found out pretty quickly. The Gables is better in only two ways - they offer a better selection of snacks at the early-dinner wine hour, and their beds are firmer; at least, the king-size bed that we had at Inn Above Tide was suprisingly soft, not for you Klingon warriors out there. And that's about it. In every other respect, the Inn Above Tide is a cut above. The service is more "professional", and there are always 2 people on duty, not just one. The maid-service is some of the best we've seen anywhere, although English may not be their first language (that's California for you). The staff moves your car for you. All the rooms face over the bay, and the balconies are stepped-back so that you don't see your neighbors, not without trying - although you can hear them if they insist on making loud cell-phone calls from their balconies. ("You can't buy 'class' ".) The rooms themselves are well-soundproofed, though. The weekday nights are quiet except for the occasional distant yell from a waterfront restaurant (we did not stay Friday or Saturday, which we suspect is noisier). The service is respectful - the kind of "unAmerican" touch that we usually associate only with the best hotels in the country - and the location near the ferrydocks is actually quite soothing, with the distant whine of the diesel engines marking the time of day.

Our room was not the largest available, but was top floor. Unlike other hotels, however, the largest and most luxurious rooms are not necessarily on the highest floors.

The bathroom towels are absorbent and plentiful. The bathtub in our King Fireplace room was big enough for two. The toilet is a ToTo with the quiet flush and the slow-close lid - you know, that brand of toilet that you usually find at only the best hotels. Even the bathroom fan was quieter than in most hotels.

The pastries at breakfast are obviously from the same bakery that The Gables uses - but are more plentiful, and there is a quiche as well. Unlike some places, the supply of food lasts until the end of the breakfast hour, at a civilized 10 am. The only disappointment at breakfast is the French-roast coffee, which is quite ordinary.

The WiFi was free, strong, and - here's the best part - "secure", unlike so many other hotels. The air-conditioning unit mounted high on the wall was modern, quiet, and remarkably effective; but for cool sleeping at night, just leave your balcony door open.

We will stay here again, as soon as time and finances allow. A few people bring their kids; don't even think about it! Leave the kids at home; this place is for mature couples, and for those lone business travelers whose companies really appreciate them.

Room Tip: All rooms have water views. The further you are from the ferrydock-side (the north side), however, t...

This hotel is perfect, the location and the stunning views, along with the superb complimentary breakfast which for a small fee can be delivered to your room. In a word, perfect. I would definitely recommend.

to celebrate our daughters birthday we booked 2 rooms and were pleased with the lovely décor and dazzling view. Every room looks out at San Francisco, Alcatraz, Marin etc. We were pampered from greeting, valet parking, check-in, wine in room, turn down service and scrumptious large buffet breakfast. The rooms and beds were very comfortable, had complimentary water, binoculars, bicycles, morning newspaper and more. All the shops & restaurants were within a short stroll. Highly recommend.

I first saw the Inn Above Tide last May when I visited Sausalito and thought to myself "wow, that looks like an beautiful place for a romantic getaway." Being single i wasn't sure when I'd get the chance to go. Wellll, I recently got to go with my girlfriend and it was even better than expected from start to finish. I surprised her with a Queen room with a fireplace and bay view balcony.
The experience was first-rate from reservation to check-out. All the staff were extremely professional and friendly. The room itself was immaculate and getting to see the bay at day's end before joining friends for dinner was very special.
She/we also loved the soaking tub. May have been the biggest tub ever - huge!
The continental breakfast the next morning was well beyond most at comparable inns in both breadth and quality; pastries, oatmeal, fruit, yogurts, and a number of drinks available.
It's a bit of a splurge and worth way more. We'll definitely return and I highly recommend it!

We booked this hotel for the last three nights of our special Canada / US trip for our 25th wedding anniversary. It was a bit pricy, but after 25 years, I felt I had earned it. It was absolutely fantastic and worth every penny / dollar! The staff were attentive and very helpful, valet parking worked well. Our room was overlooking the bay, a wonderful haven after a busy two weeks. The continental breakfast was delicious, the wine and cheese happy hour was fantastic, not least5 because it was free. Details like binoculars in the room and the Bulgaria toiletries were great. We hadn't realised when we booked that it was the start of the America's Cup, watching that from our balcony was a real bonus.

A bit on the pricier side but it definitely exceeded our expectations.
Everything about the hotel is just perfect.
Probably the best hotel to stay while visiting San Francisco.
Excellent view of bay from the room.

Room Tip: Every room has a bay view, which is the best feature of this hotel
