Everything about Gables Inn is wonderful. The property is so beautiful and so very well taken care of. The rooms are so very comfortable with many extras you don't normally find. We loved the Keurig drink machine in the room, comfy bedding and Aveda bath products. In addition, the breakfast and wine and cheese service were just great. This is such a clean, quiet, restful place to stay with San Francisco so close. It took us 20 min. by car to reach the city. The staff was all very kind and helpful as well!

Room Tip: I would suggest rooms on the upper floors or away from the main building. We were on the lower leve...

Breakfast has ample fresh fruit, pastries & breads, oatmeal, yogurt, etc. No reason to start the day hungry.

Location is easy walking distance to all shops an restaurants in the downtown area.

Very short walk to hop ferry ride across the bay to SF Ferry Building or Fishermans Warf (Pier 41).

Evening wine and cheese reception was terrific. All in high marks across the board with the only exception being spotty wifi. Worked well when it worked but had to go through a router/modem restart at least once every day.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We stayed in the Alder Room and it was clean, roomy and had a view of the City. Close to the street so a little noisy but once the stores shut down the street is quiet. The staff was very helpful and professional. You can't beat the location as it is close enough to the main road but far enough away from the hustle and bustle. Walking to the restaurants is a short and easy walk... As a matter of fact it was easier to walk from our room to Starbucks for coffee rather than going to the lobby for some coffee... :). The only challenge is parking. it is best to park your car and walk as parking is limited and small but do not let this limitation negatively impact your decision to stay here.. we plan to come back soon !!!

You have to stay here! Just a short trip from San Fran that you will not regret. It always seems to be slightly warmer and sunnier on the other side of the Bay. The Gables Inn is very accommodating and quaint. The staff is very knowledgeable and outgoing. The property is near the fairy, so there is no need to rent a car. The nice views, clean rooms and wine and cheese from 5-7 adds to the welcoming stay.

We will be coming here again.. and often!

What a great place! Brought my wife for our 10th anniversary and we could not have been happier. Both my wife and I were so impressed by how beautiful our room was (Magnolia). Everyone was so nice and overly accomodating, made us feel right at home. Every thing from the evening wine and cheese to the morning breakfast was wonderful! We will definetally be back!

The stay started out pretty well with a large room, lovely view for the most part and comfy bed. Breakfast was your typical continental. The wine and cheese in the evening was nice. The rooms need alot of updating as the carpet in our room was disgusting, worn and filthy. There was mold/mildew in the shower.I am not sure a carpet cleaning would help but it would be worth a try. The location upstairs over the lobby was a bit noisy in the evening when people got loud during the wine receptions but I am sure another room would have been quieter. There is no airconditioning and when you first come back to the room if having been gone all day, the room was over 80 degrees. It would cool off in about an hour with a box fan blowing so don't be in a hurry to shower when you get back. The only way to cool the room was to open the doors and windows which looked directly into another persons balcony so there was no privacy if the doors were open. The hotel location was great for the ferry use or restaurants.

Our biggest issue was when we returned to the room the third day we had not had maid service. I went to the desk and asked why and the response I got was "Do you need towels?". A little more than towels I would say......towels, fresh sheets would have been nice since they only change them every third day and we had already been there for two, coffee, cups, shampoo, etc etc. I understand their maid service goes home but they could have acted like they cared instead of like I was bothering them. The front desk clerk acted the same when we checked out and again mentioned this problem. I did give them an oportunity to recify this situation and offer an sincere apology before writing this review and all they said was they had "new staff" but they hoped we would come back again. NEVER!! It is a shame. This could have been a great hotel with just a little effort.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms on the third floor over the lobby area during the warm months and the room directly...

If you like smaller venues, then the Gables Inn is for you. This is a cross between a B & B and an Inn. The rooms we had were comfortable and well-appointed, although it appears they vary widely so you might ask to see the lay-out, etc. beforehand. For example, we had two connecting rooms -- one had a king-sized bed and a sitting room and balcony. The other had a queen bed, a fireplace and a fabulous view of San Francisco. Also, if you are used to newer hotels, be prepared for some noise since there was no air conditioning and leaving the windows at least cracked was necessary for some circulation. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. The daily continental breakfast was fine and the evening wine and cheese exceptional. The location was superb. - right off the main street in Sausalito -- easy walk to the ferry, shopping and restaurants. One note, this is not a place to stay if you have mobility problems. Getting to our room involved going down some stairs, outside, and then up some more stairs, which was no easy feat when lugging your luggage. I am sure they would have helped carry it had I asked, but I did not know the number of stairs involved and just took it myself. Would be nice if they would add a coffee maker to the rooms -- it is nice to have coffee in the room even before going to breakfast. I would also suggest an upgrade to a better quality pillow. The ones in our room were not that great. Overall, however,I was pleasantly surprised and would recommend it if you are looking at Sausalito.
