We've been to Sausalito a million times but never spent the night. After spending waaay too much time on TripAdvisor checking place after place for Sausalito decided that the Gables Inn sounded good. We wanted to be downtown so we could park and not drive for a few days. Lots of other nice places in the same town had enough bad reviews here and there that we passed on all of them and tried this one. Glad we did. We had just spent three days in Big Sur at some awesome rustic cabins (Ripplewood Resort) and my wife wanted to be pampered.

This place rocks. Sissy, the night person went out of her way to make us feel at home. The nightly wine and cheese was great. The morning breakfast was one of the best we've ever had at an Inn. We stayed in the Lilac Room which was very nice, has a big tub, and a big deck with a view of the city. We left the doors open at night to get the view and the cool breeze.

In the mornings (we're morning people) my wife would get up, go downstairs, and walk down the street for 30 seconds (literally) to the Starbucks and bring lattes back to the room. Once we were "Up" we'd go down for breakfast and then start exploring the area.

The only negative thing to me was that there was a baby/small child in the room next to us which bothered us a bit. Did not expect a young child at a really upscale Inn. We came here to get away from the noise and were not able quite to. And that's not really an issue of the Inn other than I didn't expect kids here. At least not really small ones that cried.

Would definitely stay here again and would also recommend the Lilac Room as having a great deck, lots of room, and all the amenities. We took the ferry several times from Sausalito -> Tiburon -> San Fran and back. Lots of fun and a cheap way to get out on the water. Also can recommend Sushi Ran for dinner if you can find it. Sissy will help you.

My husband and I have stayed at The Gables Inn several times. It is a very lovely, old property, recently renovated. The Inn is quaint, tasteful, and the staff are great. The Inn was decorated for the holidays, with a real tree, beautifully decorated. The lobby has a roaring fireplace in the evenings. Missy, on the night shift, went above and beyond to enhance our experience. The nightly wine/cheese is high quality and delicious. The breakfasts provide a nice variety of food for healthy and yummy choices: hard boiled eggs, yogurt, bagels, good fruit, english muffins, toast, cereal, juices, etc. The Inn is just steps away from Starbucks, downtown shopping, restaurants, and best of all, the Bay! The walk along the Bay is very nice. We took the ferry to San Francisco (a little expensive but worth the experience and not having the hassle of parking in SF), walked to Union Square and did a little Christmas shopping. There is a $15 parking fee, per night, at the Inn. On this trip we took our daughter so we stayed in a room that could accommodate 3 adults. On previous trips we had rooms with a view of the Bay, which was really nice.
