Pls rent rm 304!!!! This is what California is all about... Warm people and spotless service. ( We love you Sissy!)To wake up with the View of San Francisco at the tip of your fingers. Oh, to die for. Lovely..divine and enchanting. Everyday, there is wine and cheese from 5 pm to 7 pm. So Romantic this Christmas and New year's Eve. Saw San Fran's fireworks from Rm 304!!!! And also a Continental breakfast. A perfect holiday!!! Brought my 6 yr old and 4 yr old, so they welcome kids... Some guests give you the eye, when your kids get noisy...don't mind them.. Haha. Aaaahhh!!! I slept so well. The bed is soft. By the way people, the little nitches here and there is part of this lady's charm. Secluded for those of you looking for romance and tough enoug to handle my kids.

My husband and I stayed at The Gables Inn in September, 2012. It was fabulous! Impeccably decorated, the lobby had a nice chic but homey feel to it. The daily wine and cheese right before going to a restaurant for dinner was a good chance to talk to others--or just sit by yourself and relax by the fireplace. Our room was so inviting with it's own fireplace, a private balcony, and a view of San Francisco Bay! Just a short distance walk to the ferry, shopping and dining, we explored all of Sausalito on foot, and were close enough to the Inn to drop off a jacket or our purchases. The staff was excellent--Jen and Michael were very helpful and attentive to everyone's needs. Jen had great suggestions for dinner, and made our reservations for us. The breakfast every morning had enough for everyone with lots of nutritious offerings. We will be back to The Gables Inn for our next trip to Sausalito--a great place to visit!!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a private balcony and view of the bay!

We chose this inn for a summer trip to the SF Bay area. We didn't necessarily want to stay in city, but we still wanted easy access to downtown. The Gables Inn is located on the north side of the bay and is a very short walk to the ferry terminal that takes you in to San Fran. Although we weren't in a "view" room overlooking the Bay, the location is fantastic. Sausalito is a cute place to hang out, with restaurants and shops galore. However, it is also within quick driving distance of the Muir Woods and Mt. Tam and not too far from the Golden Gate Bridge if one wants to drive in to the city. We did all of the above during our 10 days.

We enjoyed the extensive continental breakfasts in the dining room or out on the back porch. There is also a wonderful cheese and wine bar in the afternoons; at least once we re-arranged our plans to make it back in time for this included amenity. The hotel staff were friendly and accommodating. Case in point: we had booked our time in two different rooms because they did not have one room available for the entire length of our stay. Nonetheless, by the date mid-week when we needed to change rooms, they found a way to make the room change unncessary.

The one down-side to this property is probably parking. They have an on-site lot, but the spaces are narrow and, on at least one occasion we came in late and all the spaces were taken (despite the fact that we had paid for parking). Fortunately the Inn staff pro-rated our parking based on the fact that we had to find on-street parking that night.

Overall, a delightful stay in Sausalito.

We stayed two nights, enjoying the ambiance if the inn, strolls through the town, and proximity to San Francisco. Continental Breakfast was good, evening wine and nibbles by the fire a nice touch. Good service. I'd love to come here again.

We needed to stay 2 extra days in the San Francisco area at the end of a coach tour and before departing on a cruise but many hotels were already full as there was a big conference/convention over those days (and room rates had risen!). Checking Tripadvisor, we found The Gables Inn and the reviews were certainly not exaggerated. We had the Lilac Room with a wonderful balcony looking over the Bay, the city and Alcatraz . Great cheese and wine reception: first night we sat and chatted to the other guests and, on the second, we took one of the provided trays up to our balcony and sat with a glass of wine, a plate of delicious cheeses and just gazed at the view as the sun went down. Bliss. Excellent breakfast each morning with lots of fresh fruit and pastries. Again, we took a tray up on our balcony and watched the boats sail by. Spent the free day visiting Muir Woods. It took the whole day as we had been given wrong information by the ticket agent at Fisherman's Wharf that there was a shuttle at 10.0 a.m. We waited until 11.00 a.m. when the sightseeing bus from San F. arrived - to be told that the shuttle went at 9.00 a.m. and just before 12.00 noon! We carried on waiting and, at last, the shuttle arrived. It was worth waiting as Muir Woods, with the giant redwoods, was wonderful. We spent around 3 hours there, walking through the pathways and saw an otter foraging in the stream and catching a fish and a deer sitting quietly in the dappled shade so close to the path that many people walked by without noticing it! Do visit Muir Woods but, if you need the shuttle, double check when they run! Can't recommend any restaurants in Sausalito, although we are sure they are great, as we had a large lunch before leaving San F for Sausalito so didn't need any dinner that night and so enjoyed the cheese and wine reception the second night that, again, we weren't hungry! The staff were so helpful and made us feel so at home. We would definitely recommend this hotel to others.

Our stay was magnificient from start to finish. On arrival we were shown to our "view with a room". Wow - double french doors that open onto a balcomy with a full view of San Francisco Bay, Alcatrez and the Bay Bridge. A perfect wine and cheese reception was going on. The room was well appointed and large. Very clean and that is deal maker for me. Sissy was a great help to us in reception and we decided to dine in and have dinner and wine on our balcony. Breakfast options were plentiful. We had requested a late check out which was accomodated so we also had lunch from the Venice Gourmet on the balcony before departing. My only suggestion for improvement would be to upgrade the balcony furniture as that is definitely where guests will want to spend their time.

Located in an old building just off the Main Street (Bridgeway) the Gables offers great service and in many rooms a spectacular view of SF across the bay. The morning breakfast is special only to be trumped by an even better wine cheese at dusk
Small (15 rooms) but special

Room Tip: Ask for those with SF view
