Angelo's is certainly pleasing to the eyes with their array of ethnic Italian pre made offerings, cold cuts, pastas and canned goods etc. Their breads are as good and as crispy as you can get in S. CA. I guess if I lived nearby, rather than visiting, I would be thrilled to have an Angelo's a car ride away. We purchased some dry pasta shapes that are not carried in the supermarkets. We also purchased, Genoa salami, mortadella, and provalone that tasted like waxy mozarella. These items were a treat for our transplanted relatives but the offerings are NOT a" taste of Italy"(been there 6 times) , or even NY deli! Authentic--NO......but at least someone is trying to get some pseudo-Italian goods to S.CA.

I love places that seem to take pride in their craft and Angelo's definitely does this! Their Italian ingredients are completely authentic, the staff is friendly and seem to enjoy working there, and the food is great. It's a small place with basic deli decor and located 2 blocks from the beach and very close to many cute shops.

We got the cheese sandwich and the eggplant Parmesan and both were great. They use fresh baguettes and the large sandwiches are large enough to fill up a large man and even split the meal into 2 if you'd like (for those of the fairer sex). On your way out, stop by their side grocery and pick up a bottle of wine and some pasta for an authentic Italian dinner later!

Visit Angelo's weekly for lunch meat and pasta sauce. The selection is very good and the quality is always excellent. I would highly recommend buying the lasagna which is excellent for a quick dinner during the week. What a great addition to Seal Beach.

extremely fresh crusty bread, good hero sandwich. Very small selection of deli meats but that is why the quality is higher than in supermarkets. Not the usual Boar's Head. Try the Italian mortadella. Get a sandwich and eat on the pier.

Angelo's Italian Deli, what a letdown! First of all I would like to say to the highly deserving people that reads this type of review, do not be fooled with the high accolades this so called deli receives. The way I figure it out is like this: people are so loyal to Angelo's because they are cousins, business associates, used to mediocre delis and figure this one is the best, etc.
Owner Angelo, and this is a trait with many italians living in the US, has a chip on his shoulder this big, and so does his son or whoever was the only other person attending the front.
Come On! When have you seen a full fledged deli run by one or two persons. This was the first sign of impending doom!
Second, their selection of cold cuts is limited to a handful of overly expensive, low quality deli meats, and even though their cheese selection was somewhat more generous, it was very limited to what Angelo, the great Angelo wants to sell you at whatever prices he chooses.
In the other side of the store there are plenty of dried items, canned items, crackers and a decent amount of wine. All overpriced by at least 40%, I am now sure.
Why did I go to Angelo's Italian Deli? Because I am a fool, that is why! I decided to do a Google search for the best delicatessen in Orange County and, poor Mama Mia, Angelo's came on top. There is absolutely no doubt this was paid advertisement, simply stated. The survey was done by HauteLiving.com, what a bias outfit this is. I even went to 2 other delis in the list of 5, and the results were more depressing still.
Here is my take. We only had 3 items served for a total of almost $50:
1 Large Roast Beef in a Baguette. Asked the attendant with a chip on his shoulder about the quality, I do not think he dignify with an answer. Roast Beef quite inferior to, let's say for the sake of comparison, a place like Costco. Served in a baguette bread, same size as a subway 6 inches. More lettuce and tomato than meat. The thin layer of meat was a very ugly joke for $10. No taste of roast beef, more bread than anything and the bread was not particularly tasty. 1 Star.
1 Large Pastrami in a Baguette (they are cocky here, no rye for pastrami, and they don't care wether you like it or not), slightly better than the roast beef, with provolone and somewhat more generous amount of meat. 2 Stars.
Pannetone Mania. $24+. Stale, like it has been hiding in a closet somewhere.
Our original intention was to load up with cold cuts, cheeses, olives, sardines, etc., for the 25 of December. Good Bread, tasty desserts, etc. Once we tried their sandwiches that went out the door. I can not believe people saying this place is like a New York Deli! How dare you compare this nobody to what the real delis of the world offer? In a real deli there is like 10 to 15 people running the front, and their treatment of clients is internationally savvy, with cold cuts each better than the next.
Be weary of these people that praise Angelo. They are not, by a long shot, a real deli. But they still make money like crazy so do not feel sorry for the overcharging, greedy owners. Angelo's Italian Deli sucks Big Lemons, and they can take their airs of superiority all the way back to the village where they were born. Bad service, even worst food, what a fiasco.
2 Stars.
