Quite clean and friendly place to overnight. We have easily found rooms on the same day below 100 USD a night. The location and breakfasts could have been better. So probably won't be back here for a purpose but still it looks like a good value/money choice.

very nice, updated, clean rooms. Had a good night sleep and felt comfortable.
Breakfast included, laundry and ice machine right there.
Easy 10 min drive to cannery row. We payed about $55 and will return next time we're in the area.

The room 217 was clean but had a musty smell. Location is not exactly what you would expect when you hear the name "Sand Castle", because you have to get in the car to go to the beach.
Worst of all was the very unfriendly staff, e.g the WiFi didn't work during our entire stay and we reported this to the manager, but he only said "he knows about the problem, and someone would be working on it already". Really, after 4 days still not working, didn't seem to me that anyone was working on it.
Based on our experience I can not recommend this accommodation and I do not understand the #2 ranking???

We also chose this place because of the good reviews at the time, and were a bit disappointed. As other visitors lately, we also want to question the #2 ranking. If this place is the 2nd best in Seaside, how are the other places? Due to refurbishment(highly needed), the outdoor area looked like a construction sight. Wi-fi did not work in the rooms, only in the reception.

We picked the Sand Castle Inn because of its #2 rating, some positive reviews, and the # of complaints at the time about the #1 place (Embassy Suites). I REALLY have to question how a 2-star place got to be #2 in Seaside. My first on-site impression was ringing a bell and waiting outside, late at night to check in through a thin slot in a glass window; the pen would barely squeeze through the slot! Not very impressive. We rented 2 double-bed rooms. My room smelled of disinfectant, the bathroom door would not close properly and the safety lock on the door was gone (removed, not replaced). This seemed to be a one-man show behind the front desk. Same guy answered phone queries late at night and during the day, checked us in late (about 10:30pm) and was there working the breakfast in the morning. We didn't do the continental breakfast (looked OK for what it was), as we wanted something more substantive. Gallant effort involved no doubt, but no wonder our room was not maintained. With a small AAA discount the rooms were $165, $187 after taxes. That seems quite exorbitant for a mediocre motel at best. Again, #2 in Seaside - what the fuzz, Trip Advisor?!

Stayed here 2 nights for a golf outing. The room was quiet, staff helpful, refrigerator and microwave in room and the queen bed was very firm. Their website advertises this room from $79.00 to $309 per night depending on the day of week and how far in advance you book the room. I paid $139 a night which is the going rate for similar types of rooms but would definitely NOT pay $300! The room is not worth that price, especially for the location. I stayed in a nicer place and area in Marina for the same price last year. I wasn't familiar with the town of Seaside so I gave it a try. If you're just looking for a place to sleep while visiting Monterey the Sand Castle will do but watch your room rate.

Clean room, comfortable bed and friendly staff. The price for this hotel was very good. Location was excellent! Close to Carmel and Monterey too. Nice breakfast is included, they even had waffles! Good selection of breakfast items for any age. I would recommend this hotel to any traveler!
