“A great find...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 May 2014

our plans to visit home were put in some disarray, and we were directed to the Lakeview Inn by some friends...

it was a wonderful discovery...

Barb and Terry were great hosts, and the home prepared meal was excellent...

as it has been noted, Newfoundland is known for it's coastal regions, but it's interior holds an amazing peace and beauty, and that is captured here...

a wonderful view, wonderful people and great food, all in the tiny town of Millertonw...

Too often tourists (and us Newfoundlanders ourselves) associate Newfoundland with outport communities (fish, whales and icebergs). We fail to realize that inland Newfoundland also has a rich history, starting with the Beothuks, leading up to communities being formed in the 20th century around mining and logging, to where many of them are today; struggling to survive (as are their outport brethren).

Our group of 3 couples on 3 ATV's took an adventure across the Gaff to Millertown in late August (2013) and learned so much about this inland experience. When we arrived at the Lakeview Inn, we were welcomed by a nice lady (Barb & Terry weren't in at the time) and shown to our rooms. After dropping off our gear, we headed out for a few hours to explore before supper. Upon returning tied and dusty, we were greated by great smells from the kitchen that made the time we took to shower and change pretty rushed. At supper (delicious roast beef) we had a great conversation with others staying at the Inn (some geology students and folks working the local mine). From there it was just a relaxing evening. A few of us unwound in the hot tub and later we all gathered on the front porch (it was raining, so no fire)with co-owner Barb (Terry had to get up very early in the morning, so he didnt join us). We had some great discussions about the Millertown area, including its history, its opportunities (some missed unfortunately) and its potential. Barb's passion for her business and the community were obvious. She wants to see things sustained and grow, both with industry and four-season tourism. After 10pm, all exhausted, we gradually started heading off to bed. The next morning, a full breakfast was waiting, after which we packed up and got back on the trails for our return home.

All in all, the Lakeview Inn was a secret treasure. An old company house that's been tastefully renovated. Its warm and inviting in all ways; from when you come in the door from the large front porch, to when you gather in the large dining room, until you call it a night in the comfortable beds. The washrooms are shared, but that wasnt an issue as there were 3 upstairs. Barb and Terry treat you like family (even though we only spent a few hours with them) and when we left, it wasnt so much a "good bye" as "see you again". We'd recommend it and we will be back.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 July 2012

And group of ten A TV'ers recently spent a weekend at one of NL's gems. The decor is delightful, the food delicious and the hospitality outstanding. Terry and Barb "go the extra mile" to make your stay enjoyable. Their wide verandah with comfy couches provide a great view of Red Indian Lake and their fire pit and hot tub make you anxious to return after skidooing, ATVing or sightseeing. A trip we plan a year in advance!

Room Tip: They have rooms with double beds, two singles or double and single. There are two shared bathrooms an...
