“relaxing, Beautiful”
Reviewed 21 September 2008

If your looking for a place to go and collect your thoughts, relax and take in a beautiful view this is the place to be. The town itself is relaxing, walk up to the little grocery store and sit on the front porch, have an ice cream and watch the locals go by. Head back to your room at the Harrington and sit on your private deck and listen to the river. Relax with the most beautiful view. Then when your ready, walk up to the restaurant and enjoy a wonderful meal. If you take your kids, like we did, they will love the trout pond. Give them a few quarters and they can feed the fish, they love it.

We had never been to Sierra City and decided to take a long weekend trip. We were referred to Herrington's by friends and were very pleased with the accomodations. Our room was very nice and comfortable. We especially liked the balcany, sitting on it and listening to the river below us. The restaurant had excellent food! We loved the area and plan to return to Herrington's in the future.

What great place just to relax and enjoy the beautiful Sierra's. We enjoyed the river and the waterfall we could see from our room. It was nice to have a nice place to have dinner without having to drive anywhere. The service was wonderful and the people were great to work with.

What a wonderful, relaxing oasis from reality. This is the way to spend Labor Day weekend. The balcony is far up enough that you can leave your sliding door open to enjoy the night breeze and the sound of the river below. Very restful sleep.

Hiking around the area lakes made you in awe of this area that seems to be a secret from the rest of the world.

We enjoyed watching the kids catch giant trout out of the pond in front of the resort as their parents tried to calculate how much each fish cost..........

The food is excellent. We had breakfast and dinner at the restaurant at the resort. My only complaint is that the servings are so large and the food taste so good, it was hard to stop even though you are full. The eggs were cooked to perfection, which is what I always look for in a good breakfast. For dinner I had halibut, moist and perfect and my husband had the rib eye steak special that he said he could cut with a butter knife. All of the staff were friendly, helpful and seemed very happy, but who wouldn't be if they lived in that area.

Welcoming hotel, riverside rooms, with a really cool fish pond full of trophy-sized rainbow trout. We stayed here in June and the river was flowing fierce - a very tranquil sleep! The restaurant had just opened during the weekend of our stay and we enjoyed the American-style dishes. Very welcoming to motorcycle riders as well! Beware - this area does not have digital cell phone service.

We were in the kitchenette near the main road the first night, view of the mountains, cozy lodging for three with 2 beds in bedroom and a La-Z-Boy sofabed in living room with an air mattress on top, making it quite comfortable. We had to move into two rooms the second night, one double-bed room near the trout pond - tiny bathroom! - and one king-bed room at the lowest level above the river - comfortable, but very steep climb to get to/from the room. Everything was clean and in working order. We ate at the on-site restaurant both nights - expensive, big American-style meals (prime rib, fried chicken) - the food was just OK. One night I couldn't eat the fish - it tasted "off" (they credited 50% of the cost of the meal). We wished we had had the kitchenette for two nights so that we could cook our own food. The proprietor is genial, the service in the restaurant is OK. It would be nice if they would open for breakfast before 8 - many patrons leave by 6 a.m. to go birding - or if they provided coffee and rolls for us "early birds". I would stay here again, especially if we could get the kitchenette, but I'd eat elsewhere.

I paid for a room with a view over the water and found there were lots of stairs to drag my bags up and down. They didn't provide very good directions as to the location of my unit so I did unnecessary searching down a steep hill bags in tow.

Although I paid extra for the view, I really couldn't enjoy the balcony. I was in a non-smoking section, but the people next door kept smoking on their balcony, which mean I couldn't sit out on mine, nor could I keep the sliding door open to enjoy the sound of the river below. The hotel operators said the non-smoking policy didn't apply to the balconies.

As for the room, it was adequate. Overall a disappointing stay at what sounded like a cosy country inn from the literature.
