If you’re driving down Hwy 101 on the old El Camino Real and you’re approaching the sleepy little agricultural town of Soledad, CA, then I highly recommend the convenient stop just off the highway on to the frontage road called Front Street.
This street is lined with quaint shops and businesses and among them is this little fantastic Mexican restaurant that specializes in very authentic styles of Mexican food.
I was particular impressed with the "freshness" of the food! I was also interested in there more than average array of seafood.
I took this opportunity to try something unusual in this menu section. I saw they had "Pulpo", which is octopus. I chose their menu's Pulpo Tostado along with two soft-shelled chicken tacos. All of these were excellent and was extra happy to see that they had made their own corn tortillas! These were so good in fact that we purchased a dozen to go as well.
There are many other traditional items as well such as most any variation of combination plates to eggs with chorizo and menudo.
They also had a choice of cold refreshing fruit drinks, one was Pineapple with Lime and the other was Guava. Of course they have the other usual soft drinks and water.
Taqueria Casa del Palmar appears to be run by a large Mexican family. I had noticed the kitchen was well equipped with two or three generations of cooks.
If you get a chance, try this place out, I'm sure you'll be pleased as it's really affordable too!
