“Not What We Expected”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2005

The outside of the Inn is quite charming and impressive, but the Thumbelina room was not very impressive. Althought the bed was acceptable, the linens were not. The pillows were the thinnest I have ever encountered in our extensive travels. The paint on the windowsills in the bathroom was peeling and the windows and ledges needed a good cleaning. At check-in, the staff member was quite disorganized and eventually sorted out our reservation.
The wine and cheese reception was pleasant, but the room where it is held is too small to allow the guests to mingle. The furniture throughout is tired and the upholstery is faded and lacking in charm. Breakfast was good and the young lady who seved it was very pleasant, but the service was sporadic.
There are much more charming and hospitable places to stay in Solvang. The experience did not live up to their claims on their web site.

My now fiance took me to the Storyboook Inn to propose. Upon entering the Little Mermaid room, I was greeted with flower pedals on the bed and a bottle of Dom on ice. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay so special and even handled reservations at the Brother's Restaurant at Mattei's Tavern the next night - excellent as well.

Great breakfast, exceptionally comfortable bed, two-person jacuzzi and beautifully appointed rooms made for a great engagement night. Highly recommended.

We just recently stayed at the Storybook Inn, and we had a perfect weekend.
The staff was very nice, and extremely helpful with planning our weekend. They recommended excellent restaurants ( The Chef's touch for lunch and Brother's at Matteis tavern for dinner). We went wine tasting, visited the outlying towns of Los Olivos and Santa Ynez, walked around Solvang at night (which is quiet and beautiful), and shopped.
We had wine and cheese at the Storybook, and we found it very relaxing talking to other people in the parlor and enjoying our wine. There were also delicious chocolate chip cookies available to us. As soon as the plate was empty in the parlor, it was immediately refilled.
The rooms are gorgeous and the beds are so comfortable- the kind of beds you could sleep in all day if you let yourself. We did not find the bathroom crowded or hard to navigate. We stayed in the Princess and the Pea which was darling, and although it did face a parking lot, it was quiet. There was so much to do and see we only spent the evenings in our room, so the view didn't matter.
We enjoyed our breakfast. The first morning we requested breakfast in bed at 9:30. They brought in a lovely tray with coffee, Oj, Fresh fruit, strawberry crepes, and omelettes. It was delicious and very filling. The next morning we opted to eat in the diningroom. The owners were there to cook our breakfast and they were more than accommodating and pleasant. That day we had Frittattas and ableskivers. I saw Carol roaming the tables, asking everyone how their meal was and if they needed anything.
We have traveled all over the world and visited many Inns, and I would highly recommend this place to anyone. We had a lovely relaxing weekend, and look forward to many happy returns to the Storybook Inn.

We stayed there this spring and found it overpriced and the bed was not that great. The bath room was small and hard to navigate. Overlooking a parking lot noisy was not our cp of tea. The wine and cheese was not the best wine I would have expected and the breakfast was unique at best. Mgt spent too much time on pleasing one table of guest and overlooked the remainder. No not there again but somewhere else in the quaint village which is a must see.

We had a wonderful time at Storybook Inn. Each of the nine rooms is decorated in a Hans Christian Andersen fables theme and the Little Mermaid has a jazzuci tub. All of the rooms are complemented by beautiful antiques. Carol and Skip made us feel right a home. They cooked us a gormet breakfast and even allowed me to try my hand at abelskivers (round pancakes). Can't wait to visit Slovang again and stay at Storybook Inn:>)!!!
