This hotel is in a great location, right on the town square. However, the hotel was a disappointment. The room was quite bare with a hard, uncomfortable bed; linens were rough and the towels were threadbare. After the first day of a five day stay, toiletries were never replaced. We had to ask at the desk for soap, shampoo and even TP! The staff was indifferent. We expected more for the money, even in northern CA. We have been to wine country several times and have always had nice accomodations before this trip. The restaurant is good.

My husband and I stayed here last year. I made the reservation site unseen and was SO pleasantly surprised. We still talk about that room. We had planned out our trip and only could stay in Sonoma for one night - we were so bummed when we had to leave. We were given a room apart from the main building, behind the pool. Initially, we were apprehensive, until we saw the room and saw how private it would be. It was a wonderful evening and we had a great morning in Sonoma before we left for tastings. We'll be back.

What a wonderful place! Right by the plaza, which turned out to be a great benefit (evening pop-up farmers market and food stalls), wonderful laid-back small town ambiance. Terrific base to explore Sonoma wineries and come back at night to walk to excellent restaurants (including the one in the hotel) and not have to drive anywhere until tomorrow. And the best hotel breakfasts I've ever had. Excellent value, an unexpected delight. Not your high octane Yountville experience, but then we weren't looking for that- less Disneywine and more grape. Perfect.

Room Tip: Very little noise from the plaza, but if you're worried try the bungalows at the back behind the pool.

My partner and I stayed at this hotel in June of 2012. I apologize for the delayed review, but better late than never?

The hotel is well situated on the square in Sonoma. A prime location! This is perhaps it's best asset and well worth paying a bit more. We arrived on a Thursday afternoon for an extended weekend stay, parked our rental car in the smaill parking lot (check in early to insure a spot) and didn't get in the car again until we were returning to the airport.

The rooms are basically similiar although some are configured a bit better than others. Noise on the square and from the restaraunt associated with the hotel can be an issue for those who retire to bed early. On the weekend we were there, activity continued until past 11PM or midnight on a couple of nights. That said, I think courtyard rooms are both more pleasant with nice views and maybe more tolerable than the street noise the other side of the hall is subject to hearing.

The ensuite bath and room were clean with ample ammenities and good appointments. A mini bar/fridge with complimentary filtered water was a nice and ecologically friendly touch. The water is replinished each day in a glass bottle instead of the omnipresent plastic bottle. Cost effective for the El Dorado and environmentally friendly too.

There is a pool at the hotel, that really is in need of updating. The pool appears to be decades old and new tile and decking would greatly enhance the area. It is basic and clean, but given the property and room costs...I think El Dorado can and should do better.

Many of the rooms have iron beds and apparently ours was not the only one that squeaked. We heard other amorous guests through the walls and I 'll take this opportunity to apologize to any of our neighbors who were subjected to the squeak, eeek, squeak drifting from our room!

Final note...don't miss eating at The Girl and The Fig across the street from the El Dorado. It is the BEST spot in the area with wonderful ambience and great food. Sit on the patio if available and enjoy a lovely meal and a glass or few of wine. You'll be staying 50 feet away so no need to drink and drive!

We have been here a few times on trips to the wine country and we really enjoy the food location and ambiance of the restaurant. We made the mistake of going to dry creek kitchen in Sonoma one time and this place Is definitely much much better that that. Not cheap but good food and consistent good service. Hope to come back soon.
