Drove through and viewed these beaches today. Saw the Harbor Seals at Goat Rock Beach. Rained on us all day but didnt spoil our fun. Had lunch in Bodega Bay...see TA list for top rated restaurants.

We've tried several of the coastal beaches, but always find Schoolhouse Beach to be the most relaxing and fulfilling spot to park our 'picnic' for a few hours. Depending on the time of year, the tide pools offer an abundance of sea life. We've seen baby octopus - very fun! The walk from one end to the other is just the right amount of exercise and the beach always seems to have ample space for visitors. One never feels crowded. You can make a fire sufficient driftwood available) and grill hot dogs. One lucky day I found 3 perfect pieces of sand glass, including a round yellow (a color I am told is quite rare). The beach is not a swimming beach, but certainly an inviting place to walk barefoot and wade in the water. ~~

The Pacific Coast Route #1 offers amazing vistas at every turn - the Sonoma Coast State Beach is one of those amazing beaches with eye-popping vistas from both the beach and the surrounding high hills. We visited Goat Rock State Beach, just one of the many beach areas that comprise the whole park. It's beautiful, simply beautiful. At the spot where the Russian River meets the Pacific ocean, there is a series of beaches, trails, and overlooks that could keep you busy all day long. Just a wonderful beach, a wonderful natural area, and views that will stay with you for a lifetime. How lucky individuals are who live in this area and can visit any time they wish - I'm jealous!

The Sonoma Coast State beach is a collection of beaches in Sonoma County. Some are Goat's Rock Beach and Wright's Beach. We viewed them mostly from the car, though got out to take pictures. It was clear but windy (to be expected). Hold on to your hat! or get one with a chin strap. The waves are strong and these beaches aren't for swimming. This was October; we didn't see any fog but maybe that's because it was afternoon. The windswept trees and barren and rolling landscape, occasionally punctuated by homes and dairy cattle, is unlike anything I'd seen.

After major anxiety crossing the mountains from Cloverdale to Gualala (Coastline), the experience of driving down Rt. 101 to Bodega Bay was Zen like (which was necessary after the drive). Worth the angst to get there!!! Great oysters, chowder and crab sandwiches in Bodega Bay.
