I loved this place. It was nice and quiet. It is a pretty big property that is made up of different buildings, 4 rooms for the most part in each building. We stayed in a room very close to the reception and off the main street so I was happy I barely saw anyone or heard any noise the whole weekend I was here. The room was big nice wood floors, a huge bathroom, walk in shower. It was very clean immaculate. Huge bed, and comfortable. I really can't find anything wrong with the room or the grounds. It was beautifully landscaped as well. The pool is really nice as well heated water, and a jacuzzi. Outside the room is really beautiful. Nice to have a glass of wine sit on a swinging bench outside enjoy the weather look at the stars whatever you want to do. Another nice thing is that they actually have a fridge in the room where you can move stuff around, as opposed to many hotels that are changing over to the sensor system. Move something in the mini bar and it ends up on your bill, which is very annoying to me, glad this place doesn't have that. There was space in the fridge for me to put some beverages I had brought.

As far as the location it is a little ways away from the town square. I didn't mind because I personally don't care about walking. I would prefer to get the exercise anyways. And it's not an overly long walk either. It takes about 10 minutes walking to get to the town square area (which by the way is pretty cool some nice bars and restaurants). Seriously though the only people that would complain about the location are either very fat lazy Americans who want to eat a lot of food and walk 2 feet to their car, or alcoholics that can't make a 10 minute walk back to the hotel cause they can barely stand. The second is actually understandable considering all the great wine in the Sonoma Napa area :)

The people who work there were very helpful, and very polite. I wouldn't say i'm the wine snob type at all, I was wearing a Raider hat at check in and felt a little out of place, but they were very warm and welcoming and made me feel very comfortable. Really nice people. They had a free continental breakfast which was pretty awesome for the price :). They did have some pretty good stuff, bread pudding, muffins, cottage cheese, fresh fruit, toast, bagels, cereal, fresh OJ, and of coffee. Oh and free WIFI as well, which is always convenient.

This place is one of the nicest I have stayed at in my traveling days...

Room Tip: I stayed in the "Elm" Building. Close to reception, away from the street and close to the...

Within 10 minutes of arriving at MacArthur Place, we changed our plans to stay an extra night. It's a beautiful place with a warm and welcoming staff. The grounds are beautiful, lovely pool and hot tub. I used the work out room and it was just fine for me. My husband and I ate dinner at Saddles, right on the grounds, and had a delicious meal with fantastic wine (recommended by our server). I had a hot stone massage at the spa, one of the best I've ever had. Great location, walking distance to the town center and we got lots of great recommendations for wineries to visit. Our room was great, tons of natural light and housekeeping did a great job every day. We enjoyed the wine and cheese in the afternoon while playing checkers. Breakfast was great too! Plenty to choose from and a lovely atmosphere. It was a perfect stay, the only downside was leaving...I definitely recommend this spot to couples looking for a romantic spot to reconnect.

Although a very nice property this place is large and caters to both the traveler and to business groups. During our stay there was a conference of some sort and the place was full of business people conducting seminars. So the feeling is more vintage hotel than BB. That said the staff still manage to give you the feeling it is all aout you. We arrived "off the street" and were made welcome from the moment we stepped in the door. A.J the CFO ( Chief Feline Officer ) was there to greet us as well so we spent half an hour talking to his devoted staff. We had arrived in time for the complimentary wine tasting with a charming hostess who was very knowlegeable about wine, then contemplated dinner in their very good on-site restaurant called Saddles. Although the restaurant was booked up we did get to look around at the fabulous decor ----- truly unique and worth seeing. It was a nice evening so we opted for the walk into the main square of town instead ( about a mile ) where there were lots of choices. Our rooom was comfortable and clean and came with all the amenities one would expect at this price point. The complimentary continental breakfast was certainly adequate, lots of fresh cut fruit, cereal, toast and juices ( the staff said it was fresh squeezed orange juice but it was not ). All in all a memorable stay and one I would recommend if you don't mind a larger but well run vintage hotel ( not really a B&B ).

Room Tip: The newer units might be more quiet. The "old house" we stayed in had old windows- not gre...

From check in to check out we had a wonderful experience! We arrived several hours ahead of check in and were needing to change clothes and freshen up to get to a rescheduled wine/meal dinner. Fortunately our room was ready and we checked in early. Our check in person was able to help with directions to the winery we were visiting and offered to print the directions for us.

We had Room 23 and it was a lovely room, spacious and equipped with all the things we needed.

We dashed off to our reservation and were back to the Inn in time for the wine and cheese hour held in the Library. The wine and cheese reception was fine, nothing special but a nice a gesture nonetheless.

In the late afternoon we walked around the grounds to check everything out. There were nice trails and the landscaping was nicely done. There were sweet little sitting areas, a large chess garden and a swing for two. Upon returning to our room the turndown service had been done. Waiting for us were chocolates and samples from the Spa. Both were nice touches. Our room was on the ground floor so that evening we did hear footsteps from the guests occupying the room above us. But really this was no big deal.

The next morning we went to the Fitness Room before breakfast. Wow, it was really nice! The Precor equipment was seemingly brand new and in great condition. There was a treadmill, a bike and an elliptical machine. There were also free weights and another set of weight machines. There was a cold water tank and chilled towels that were mint or eucalyptus scented, these felt fabulous after the workout!

The included continental breakfast was very good. It consisted of juice, coffee, plenty of fresh fruit, muffins, croissants, yogurt, cereal, bagels. The service each morning during breakfast was very good.

We had rain on the last day of our stay so it was very nice to have an umbrella in our closet as well as additional umbrellas offered in the reception room. That afternoon we had an early dinner so we decided to check out a DVD from the Library and just relax in our suite. It was nice to have that option on a rainy night.

The staff was extremely helpful with all of our needs and inquiries. They were also friendly and welcoming. I would definitely stay there again and recommend this for a romantic getaway.

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights in March and were so pleasantly surprised with the accommodations that we're considering a return trip in the next 6 months.

Location: Perfect for exploring wineries in both Sonoma & Napa, as well as within walking distance to Sonoma Plaza which has some great restaurants & shops.

Room: Large & bright (3 windows) with king sized bed, seating area with 2 chairs, mini-fridge & bar area. Bathroom is also large (1 window). Room had bathrobe, safe, hair-dryer, mini-fridge, flat screen TV, excellent water pressure in shower, & shampoo/conditioner/bath gel/body lotion provided.

Grounds: The grounds at Macarthur are beautiful, a garden filled with many plants including lots of rosemary & lavender bushes providing a wonderful scent as you walk to/from your room. The gardens make the property quiet & serene. There's a nice heated pool, small hot-tub, and spa on site.

Staff: Our experience from booking the reservation to check-out was pleasant and easy. Bunky & Kevin at reception were very welcoming & helpful in providing information on where to go in Napa & Sonoma.

Special touches: Free continental breakfast, wi-fi in room, parking, DVD movies that can be checked-out from library to watch in your room on the flat screen TV, CDs, turn-down service with chocolates & their spa body lotions. They also have a nightly complimentary wine/cheese hour.

We had a great time at MacArthur Place this past weekend. The staff was amazing, our room was great and we enjoyed all the extra special touches (i.e, Duraflame already in the fireplace, CD's provided for our enjoyment and, there weren't just mints on the pillow but, also some yummy-smelling body balms from the on-site spa.) The only issue we had was that our trip wasn't longer! :o)
