THIS is THE PLACE to stay in Sonoma. It is relatively close to the square - a quick bike ride or a 15 minute walk, or a 2 minute drive. They have terrific amenities - the pool is clean with great seating, especially for families or groups. They have several couch combinations - where you can visit with friends or relax by the pool. The seating is a small couch with a sun cover, 2 chairs and a coffee table. Plus they have those neat "bird nest" crash pads by the pool (my teenagers thought they were in heaven) and they also have two groupings of fire pit seating. It's great to gather yourselves after wine tasting and plan the evening or the next days events by the fire pits. Plus, the daily wine tasting allows you to unwind and meet new friends.

We had a "cottage" which is slightly larger than the hotel room. It is the ONLY option if you have 3 kids because they will not allow a roll away bed in the double bed hotel room. It is more expensive, so be prepared. But it is well worth it - the small couch pulls out into a comfortable bed that is next to the fireplace (again, the kids thought they were in heaven). Plus we had a small table outside our room where we could drink wine.

Lastly, as far as other amenities - I HIGHLY recommend the concierge. In fact - DO NOT go to any wineries without visiting with the concierge first. We worked with Nicole, and she was fabulous. She gave us discount cards for every winery we visited, including the ones we were stopping by on the way out of town (after we checked out). She also arranged for biking rentals direct from the hotel, including the tandem bike. In addition, she helped us map out which wineries to go to, and which ones would be best suited for our 3 kids would be able to entertain themselves. We also enjoyed morning yoga and Ryan did a great job of creating a welcoming class that was suitable for beginners and more advanced practitioners.

Room Tip: If you have 3 kids, plan on using a cottage, they won't allow a roll away bed in a hotel room wi...

We stayed for 4 nights at The Lodge and thoroughly enjoyed it! We rented a cottage room near the pool, which was very spacious. The bathroom was great...the bathtub was to die for, although the shower was a bit small. In addition to a nice vanity in the bathroom, there was another vanity with chair between the room and the bathroom, which was great. The towels were very nice and the bedding was excellent.

We stayed during the week, so the prices were more affordable. I did notice that the weekend prices were a bit steep.

The location is excellent. The property is close to the Sonoma square and all of the Sonoma wineries and about 20 minutes from Napa locations.

The service was superior. Every staff member was professional. The concierge was great, very knowledgeable!

We enjoyed the stunning pool area. There were tons of interesting places to sit, including luxurious cabanas that you normally have to pay a fee to utilize. The hot tub was very nice as well.

We enjoyed a breakfast, appetizer, and afternoon drinks around the pool...all from the same little bar/café. Everything was tasty, prompt, and priced fairly for a resort.

If you go, I highly recommend the spa. It was like nothing I've ever experienced before! It had a backyard with private pools and hot tubs, with lots of cozy spots to talk in or out of the sun. The couples massage was out of this world!!

Room Tip: The cottages are great! We had 12C right next to the pool, which was lovely.

My husband and I stayed in a cottage room here in early July. It's an interesting property--nicely landscaped and the cottages are a nice option, even if they really are quite close together. Our room rate was about $175-200 higher than its value. Had it been somewhere in the $300s we'd have given it 5 stars. The pool is small, just one step up from a nice motel pool. However, the seating around the pool is lovely and plentiful. The conversation clusters of outdoor couches/loveseats with fireplaces are also a nice touch for evening. Mattresses and bedding were comfortable and seemed clean. Several awkward fixture arrangements, such as a cold water handle that bumped into the backsplash when closed all the way, and the door handle that also bumped into the doorjamb. Our air conditioner was either blasting cold air or heat with no seeming regard for the setting we punched into the digital control box. The bathrooms were not quite clean on our first night, but management responded quickly to address the situation. The spa was very special, as was the buffet breakfast. Both breakfast and dinner menus were quite creative, although both of our entrees at dinner were overly salted. Across the board, the staff was genuinely friendly and eager to serve. Concierge Nicole made us feel welcome and started us off right by booking dinner reservations for us before we even arrived and by going the extra mile and giving us some suggestions of what to do when we arrived and what the weather might be like.

The cottage was roomy and comfortable. Up to date and modern Automatic gas fireplace was a nice touch. The grounds are well maintained and makes the modest stroll to the main building and pool a pleasant walk. Very friendly people. The restaurant was easily one of the best in the area. Surprisingly great food! Would return again!

Continuing our costal trip, spent the night here as a base camp for July 4th wine country activities. Wonderful location in the heart of Sonoma. Very friendly and helpful staff. Complimentary wine tastings. Nice pool, hot tub. Large, comfortable, clean rooms with nice little balconies and a fire place. Carneros restaurant was a big disappointment with poor service and food. I wood definitely stay here again but avoid the restaurant.

Room Tip: Request a king room with a balcony...

Rooms were nice, but not special. It was nice having a balcony to enjoy the fabulous weather. We enjoyed the wine tastings at night, and the fire pits were great to relax around in the evenings. Service around the pool was frequent and friendly.
Location was great, central to everything.
Bicycle rental was easy and available and we enjoyed that, as well as the maps they provided for the recommended ride.
The concierges were fabulous! So very helpful! Do not hit the wine tastings without stopping by to talk to those ladies first!!

We stayed here with our family over a weekend to attend some parties with friends and do a little wine tasting. Since many places were booked up or completely over-priced at the moment (seasonal thing in Napa and Sonoma) we chose to try this place. In a nutshell, it's clean and simple with some elegant touches and a really nice pool area. You do have the option of a room or a cottage. For our purposes this time we chose to do an upgraded room with two beds (since we brought kids). The room was small, simple and clean with a great balcony overlooking the pool area. The one comment I heard over and over was for the Darwin Award candidate who designed the shower. I'm certain that the builder/plumber/architect who designed this neither thought about it, nor tried it: The shower head is recessed about 12 inches back from the actual tub wall. The water pressure is inadequate, but you'll never notice because you'll be too busy breaking your toes on the tub drain which you are forced to stand on in order to actually be under the water stream. It's an indescribable experience that few have enjoyed and I wouldn't be shocked if some schmuck sues over it. Aside from that, the towels were nice, when we could get them. I've listed the pros and cons below if you just like to skip right to the point, but basically, it's a nice place in an OK location for about $150 per night and much lacking for $400. Bonus: It's pretty great for families and right across the street from Train Town - really cool for kids (and even adults who are train fanatics).

Pros: Clean, nice pool area, close to Sonoma Square, and right across from Train Town, supposedly has a nice spa (we didn't get that opportunity just yet), friendly staff.

Cons: Pool area out of towels at 11:30 on a Sunday morning, bathroom also tight on towels (4 people in room but only 2 towels), TINY double beds as opposed to actual queen size which could easily be an issue if you or your significant other weighs more than 100 pounds and, lastly, not worth the seasonal $400 + price tag (plus 'resort' fees which I hate almost as much as parking fees).

Would we return? Maybe, but only for $200 or less and ONLY with a king bed.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the pool are great, and folks said that the cottages were nice too.
