Owner description: Anaba Wines was founded in 2006 by proprietor John Sweazey when a decades long dream came to fruition. Early inspiration and trips to France in the 1970s helped shape the vision, varietals and vibe for the vineyards and tasting room. Anaba's name originates from cool, upward-flowing anabatic winds that soar and swirl through its sustainably-farmed Carneros Estate vineyards. Gifts of nature, these unique air currents make the vineyard more temperate, slow down the ripening process, and allow the grapes to develop more robust flavors and distinctive varietal characteristics. Anaba Wines became the first winery in Northern California to utilize wind power when it installed a 45-foot wind turbine to harness the anabatic winds. This wind turbine generates electricity for Anaba's tasting room, wine storage, office operations and irrigation pumps for the two estate vineyards. The Anaba tasting room is a charming, recently-renovated 100-year-old farmhouse that provides an intimate and unpretentious tasting experience in which to enjoy Anaba's award-winning wines. Anaba's limited edition, superior quality blends and single varietal wines include Pinot Noirs, Chardonnays, Rhone-style blends and an excellent selection of dessert wines.

“Fantastic wine and great service!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 September 2013

This was the third (and fourth) time I've visited Anaba, and compared to my last visit, it was absolutely outstanding! My first visit was great, second not so much, so visiting for the third time, I wasn't sure what to expect. We were immediately greeted, although the pourer at the counter was helping 6-8 people aready. He said if we'd like to taste on the patio, he'd get us started with the first pour, and Buck would finish the pours outside. We went out, and when it was time for our second pour, we were actually greated by another gentleman, who had just started there a few days earlier. He took us through our tasting and was fantastic. He made us feel welcomed, told us about himself, asked about us, and was overall very friendly.

We took our friends back another time before we left, and had another exceptional experience. This time, we did have Buck as our pourer, and he was very friendly, answered any questions we had about the wine, and shared a lot about Anaba's background, the significance of the turbine, and made us feel more than welcomed. Both these experiences blow my second visit out of the water (which must have been a fluke). The wines are great (Pink is the reason I came back and my husband loves the White Aero Port). We will definitely return to Anaba when we return to Sonoma.

“Small but beautiful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 August 2013

We dropped in as we had spare time en route to other tasting, and are pleased we did. We were one of only two couples there, and sat out in the beautiful little garden with views over the vines. The server was welcoming and tailored his comments to our reasonably limited knowledge, without being at all patronising. Some delicious wines, though not all to our taste. We bought a couple of bottles, and would have had more if we had space in our suitcase!

“Strongly advised and not disappointed!”

My fiance's friend suggested this winery for our trip out west. We went during the middle of a work day so no one else was there. We had a very nice time with a man named Dwight. He was very knowledgable and friendly. The wines were delicious. We were happy to hear that we could purchase them in our local stores. We suggest you make the stop as well!

“Joined Club After Our First Visit in 2011”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 May 2013

We thoroughly enjoy the wines offered by Anaba. Our first visit to the tasting room in 2011 we were lucky enough to have the winemaker, Jennifer, pour for us. This time we had the pleasure of meeting the owner, John, and chatted with him a bit in the new (since we were there last time) outside garden/seating area. It is delightful. We are normally Zinfandel and Cab lovers, so we were surprised that we immediately fell in love with Anaba's pinot noirs. The tasting room is small, and you might not see it as you come up on Arnold Drive at Bonneau Road, but keep your eyes open wide! It's on that very corner. We found it to be delightful and the other tasters were friendly and this tasting room and its wines are so good and only getting even better.

“Very happy accident”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 March 2013

We were actually looking for another winery when we stumbled upon Anaba, and I'm so glad that we did. We walked in during the late afternoon on a Wednesday and were greeted by Bill, our pourer. He was incredibly friendly and super knowledgeable, and he had a really impressive knack for sensing how much we knew/didn't know about wine and meeting us where we were (which was on the not-knowing-much-about-wine side). He told us all about the winery, how they use wind energy harvested from a windmill on the property to provide them with power, and of course, all about the wine. My parents, who never drink white wine, actually enjoyed the whites he poured (that's huge) and of course enjoyed the reds. Having hit quite a few of the wineries in the Napa/Sonoma area, the bottom line was that Bill was one of the most (if not THE most) friendly, personable, pleasant, and attentive pourers we had, and the wine at Anaba definitely made it into our top three favorites. If you're looking for good wine and exceptional service, I would highly recommend Anaba.
