“Entering a New Decade”

My wife and I decided at the last minute to celebrate my birthday in Sonoma. I spent considerable time trying to locate a hotel to stay that provided a good value. During this effort I came across the Inn at Sonoma. My wife is from Sonoma but neither she or I had heard of it but we thought we would give it a try. Best decision we ever made. The facility is fantastic and the staff are professional beyond description. We loved it so much we have already reserved a room for our anniversary in November. This is not a business hotel, it is a place for rest and relaxation. If that is what you are looking for, give it a try, you will be pleasantly surprised.

Exceptional service, very clean rooms, great location, very quiet - would definitely come back and recommend to anyone visiting Sonoma. Our room was a little smaller than we would like for the price, but very clean and the bed/pillows were comfortable. Almost wanted to sleep in it was so nice. The staff was very knowledgeable and attentive to our questions.

We stayed two nights in the Sonoma Inn. Our room was nicely decorated and equipped, but very dense. In accordance with the price we were made to pay, we expected the place to be super. To our dissapointment we found out that the only good thing was the room. Breakfast was limited in variety and lacked immagination. No spa in the place wxcept for an open jaccuzi. We came back to our room at about three in the afternoon, expecting to rest - and found out that the room had not been made, so we had to wait until it was ready (following our request). The service was OK, but nothing more than that. Having been to other relatively small facilities (e.g. the Huber Inn in Port Townsend and the Weasku Inn in Rogue River, we believe that the Sonoma Inn could (and should!!!) do better.

We spent Labor Day weekend here and I don't think I have anything bad to say about this place. The beds are very comfortable, the service excellent and the buffet breakfast was delicious. The rooms are definitely big enough and the bathrooms are updated with great products. It's conveniently located near the square so you can walk anywhere in downtown Sonoma. The front desk personnel are more than willing to help, too.

Room Tip: I liked the room we had very much, which was located just off the hot tub area. Room 19. It also had...

We stayed here for 3 nights recently and had an enjoyable time. The location is very convenient to the town Square, while maintaining a quiet location. The staff is wonderful and provided helpful suggestions for dining, wineries etc. They do close up the reception desk at 9pm or so, so make sure you checkin by then or make arrangements ahead of time.

We did not use the outdoor jacuzzi, but it looked nice and inviting. There is also a small seating area there and on the porch that was a nice place to relax.

Breakfast was more on the continental-side with breads, croissants, freshly cut fruits, grains, hard boiled egg, juices, coffee, and usually a quiche and one other hot item such as blue berry pancakes, or hash brown potatoes. Would have liked a sausage, bacon, or other meat, but had some peanut butter for my morning protein instead.

In the evening two complimentary wines are served in the lobby, which also has some outdoor seating on the porch area, providing a relaxing and fun way to socialize after a day of wine tasting or touring, and before dinner. We met several couples here, and it was fun swapping tips of places visited, as well as meeting people from all across the country.

Why not five stars? I may seem pickier than most, but I travel 100+ nights a year for work, as well as pleasure, and certain things here were just a bit too quirky for me. We stayed in room 27 of the new annex, and were taken back at how tiny the room was, and just plain, blah-looking decor. The bed was low to the floor, (unlike the beds in the main building), and not overly comfortable. The round sink was a bit far back on the vanity for shaving, and the combo shower/jacuzzi tub was a big step up to get in and out of -there was a safety bar, but use caution. The coffee maker and a small fridge were also in the bathroom, I guess because there was no space to,put them in the bedroom.

There is no bar soap or hotel-mini type shampo, conditioner, moisterizer bottles etc, provided, only refillable liquid bottle dispensors of "Bee Kind" products; I'm sure a nice brand, but I much prefer the bar soaps and mini bottles from a high quality hotel, such as this, thanks. The lighting in the bathroom was set on sensors and would turn on/off when you entered, however it would turn out too quickly every day when I was shaving. Not a big deal, unlike the lighting in the hallways of the Annex building which turned off at 9pm every night! yes, it was totally dark in the hallways and stairs of the annex after 9pm, save for the required emergency and exit lights - this is a bit extreme. Not really a night owl, but did come in after 9pm from dinner, and it was so dark you had to use your phone flashlight to see how to get your key in the door. This is not the case in the main building after 9pm. While the front desk reception person leaves for the night at 9pm, at least the hallway lights are still on.

The bedroom had a fireplace, but was so close to the bed we did not use it. Ideally it would be nice to sit in front of it, or on the floor, but there was not enough room. We had one sitting chair in the corner, and one swivel office chair at the small desk. Our room was listed as king deluxe, but it did not live,up to its name. To be fair, we met several people, and they showed us their rooms, all of which were larger. I think we just got the smallest room at the property, so avoid room 27, which is on the second floor, has no balcony (none of the annex rooms have balconies), and two small windows behind the bed, giving the room a dreary attic-like feel to it. Also we did not have a dresser or cabinet with drawers unlike the main building, although there were shelves in the closet. Robes are provided for your stay in the closet as well. Not enough room there for the luggage though, and couldn't put it under the bed as it was so low to the ground (unlike the main building beds).

The other rooms in the annex looked much larger, as well as the rooms in the main building. Be advised that there is no elevator in the Annex building, unlike the main building, and it is a long single flight stair case to the second floor, especially when your lugging cases of wine back to your room, or checking in and out.

Overall, I give the location a 5, staff a 5, breakfast and evening wine a 4, and unfortunately my room a 2. I,would stay here again, but would stay in the main building with a balcony, (and forgo the in-room jacuzzi). The annex just didn't do it for me, although the main building rooms seemed warmer, larger, and would like the balcony as well.

We stayed at the Inn at Sonoma for three nights and had a wonderful time. As others have noted, it's centrally located and easy to walk to shops and restaurants, and an easy starting point for a drive through wine country. Our room was in the main building on the first floor without a balcony, and it was very nice. The staff, including housekeeping, was particarly helpful and friendly and couldn't seem to do enough. We were particularly happy to use the available bikes. The breakfast is hardy and good, and there are plenty of options for everyone's tastes. The daily cookies and the very nice wine/cheese spread in the afternoon were really a great little bonus. We were very pleased we'd chosen to stay there, and would recommend it. One word of advice, though: other guests who were staying in the adjacent building said their room was much smaller than the ones in the main building.

Great location-walking distance to town. I have celiac & they accomodated me with gluten free alternatives at breakfast everyday wonderfully!! I loved the evening wine and enjoyed soaking in the hot tub at the end of the day. Our room was on the road which was a bit noisy but otherwise the room was great. We had our 2 children (10 & 12 yrs) with us & found it was a kid friendly place.
