Mary's Pizza Shack is a chain operation, the one in Napa tempted us one day and we finally gave that one a try. It was OK but not memorable. The company is headquartered here in Sonoma but we kept walking past this store for years - we have tried frozen at the market so we didn't see a reason to go in until recently.

We 2 were whisked to a booth for 4 and we were about to order when the place was invaded by a Little League team and the place came alive with a BANG! One very little team member had a plate of spaghetti, coaches and parents ordered several pizza pies, most of the youngsters settled on richer stuff, a huge amount of food was wasted - they had filled up on sweet stuff.

Meanwhile, back at our booth, we decided to split a large one and water. On the road, we might split a 10 ounce beer but did not do that - the crowd was too interesting. Meanwhile, back at the ball park, the little guy had put away all of that spaghetti.

Spaghetti in a Pizza Parlor? We studied the menu again and realized that the place is an Italian Restaurant with well-rounded selections.

We noted a near constant stream of takeout business so the empty booths are good for the walk-in trade.

Yum !

busy place, sat at the bar and had a fun time. Bartenders were busy, I believe we had a fellow named Sean who was attentive and friendly. We had great pizza, prices all good and left very happy.

Billing itself as a pizza shack is a mistake. This is good, basic Italian food of all sorts. On this, our first visit, the closest we got to a pizza was the several that went by our table; pizzas from Mary's are definitely popular. However, one of us had clam linguine, the other a hearty sausage-plus penne. Both were excellent. On a cool January early evening we sat in front of the fireplace and enjoyed our glasses of wine. Julie attended to us well. Bill incl. tip came to $50, well within the moderate range for Sonoma prices. Price/quality ratio is excellent. We will return.

Just got take-out but really liked the vibe of the restaurant. A little noisy but fun, and a really nice screened-in seating area just off the sidewalk. I'm a real pizza snob, have had some of the best on the planet (Mozza in LA, LoCoco's in Marin, Co. in NYC) and was a little hesitant to try Mary's given that they've expanded to so many spots. But the crust was light and crispy, toppings yummy (we just got the pepperoni and Hawaiian), but looking forward to going back to try others plus some sides. Great for family, a little pricey but what isn't on Sonoma Square?

We just moved to the Napa-Sonoma area and are checking out the many restaurants. Mary's looked affordable and just across the street from the beautiful Sonoma Square. It's hard to find a spaghetti sauce that doesn't taste like it's out of a can. Mary's was a surprise. According to the very friendly and helpful waitress, the red sauce is started early in the morning and simmered for hours, long before the first ladle is poured on the pasta. I'm a sauce snob, so finding one that tastes almost as good as true homemade is rare. I also liked that they offer a "small" plate for those who don't like to eat large amounts of food. You can chose the pasta and there are several other sauces as well. We will definitely be back to soak up the local experience.
