Stayed in The Hidden Oak at the end of September as part of a 3 week driving tour of California. Sonoma is not particularly cheap for accommodation but as we were celebrating my girlfriends 30th birthday we decided to push the boat out more than we may have otherwise done. The B&B is only 3 rooms and we stayed in the ‘English Garden Room’. Large room with quality furnishings very Laura Ashley in style for those form the UK who’ll know what I’m talking about. No TV in the room but can’t say we ever missed it, Like the rest of California Sonoma was going through something of a heat wave whilst we were there (the hire car indicated 108) so we spent all of our time outdoors.
Location of the B&B is ideal around 5 mins flat walk to the Plaza and there’s ample parking at the B&B. The breakfasts were good with home made pastries and other items. We stayed in many B&B’s and hotels 9 in total I think and have to say that American breakfasts or their take on the continental breakfast are just far too sweet for early in the morning! You share the table at breakfast with the other guests (if they’re up or visa versa) which is great if you like to get chatting to people whilst on your travels. There was something of a British invasion whilst we were there meeting one American couple and 2 British couples! Cheese and wine is served in the evening a nice touch.
I’d highly recommend the Hidden Oak to anyone looking at staying in Sonoma, it really is one of the prettiest places we’ve visited while in the US. It will remain extra special to us and we got engaged while we were there. The Hot Tub and pool are a nice added extra to have, You could also use a gym about 5 mins away at no charge. There are many fine dinning options around the Plaza, I’d recommend Della Santina’s which is actually on the same road as HO, great food, atmosphere and patio garden. Also Maya a little further down is Mexican with a Mayan influence great food.
If you're in Sonoma looking to get on a wine tour try Platapus, they were superb.
