“Loved Hidden Oak”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 October 2010

Stayed in The Hidden Oak at the end of September as part of a 3 week driving tour of California. Sonoma is not particularly cheap for accommodation but as we were celebrating my girlfriends 30th birthday we decided to push the boat out more than we may have otherwise done. The B&B is only 3 rooms and we stayed in the ‘English Garden Room’. Large room with quality furnishings very Laura Ashley in style for those form the UK who’ll know what I’m talking about. No TV in the room but can’t say we ever missed it, Like the rest of California Sonoma was going through something of a heat wave whilst we were there (the hire car indicated 108) so we spent all of our time outdoors.

Location of the B&B is ideal around 5 mins flat walk to the Plaza and there’s ample parking at the B&B. The breakfasts were good with home made pastries and other items. We stayed in many B&B’s and hotels 9 in total I think and have to say that American breakfasts or their take on the continental breakfast are just far too sweet for early in the morning! You share the table at breakfast with the other guests (if they’re up or visa versa) which is great if you like to get chatting to people whilst on your travels. There was something of a British invasion whilst we were there meeting one American couple and 2 British couples! Cheese and wine is served in the evening a nice touch.

I’d highly recommend the Hidden Oak to anyone looking at staying in Sonoma, it really is one of the prettiest places we’ve visited while in the US. It will remain extra special to us and we got engaged while we were there. The Hot Tub and pool are a nice added extra to have, You could also use a gym about 5 mins away at no charge. There are many fine dinning options around the Plaza, I’d recommend Della Santina’s which is actually on the same road as HO, great food, atmosphere and patio garden. Also Maya a little further down is Mexican with a Mayan influence great food.

If you're in Sonoma looking to get on a wine tour try Platapus, they were superb.

Just returned from a long weekend at the Hidden Oak Inn and I'll echo all the prior reviews. Location - great. The Inn and rooms - great. Better yet was the help Valerie provided planning and recommending / booking tours and restaurants. Best overall was Nancy, the Innkeeper, who was a great host, a whiz for breakast and well plugged in to tell you who to see and where to go.
We were travelling with another couple and this was their first stay at a B&B. Both are now convinced that a B&B stay will be a preference for future trips.

We stayed only for 1 night - lovely Inn, has really nice character. We were in the Lilac Room - nice and big, comfy bed. Bathroom was of average size had shampoo, soap and conditioner for use and a hairdryer. We were allowed to check in early and given the free wine tasting card to use - since we arrived around noon we only had time to check out 3 vineyards. Came back to the Inn for the wine and cheese at 5 p.m. - a plate is left on the dining room table with your name on it and a bottle of wine for sharing with the guests. Breakfast was very good - as it was Saturday morning it was a proper "hot" breakfast. Location of the Inn is perfect - it it easily a short was to the town square - lots of restaurants to choose from and a few bars for nightlife. Best be warned, you need to reserve the restaurants in advance - we didn't and was not able to get anything and ended up at the 'Pub" for pub grub.....not great!!! When I arrived home after my week away I was already billed on my Mastercard for the Inn - almost $300 Cdn. - I think this was a bit expensive but as this was a last minute trip I had a hard time finding accomodations for one night as most have a min. of a 2 night stay.

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights in the English Garden room at the Hidden Oak Inn. We were extremely pleased with all aspects of our stay. Valerie has spared no expense and every small detail helps to create a warm and welcoming environment at this small Sonoma B & B.

We enjoyed delicious breakfasts (such as a fruit, granola & yogurt parfait and then yummy french toast), a cozy but spacious room, the use of new bicycles to tour the countryside and nearby vineyards, and afternoon wine & cheese by the pool.

Valerie prepared wonderful breakfasts and always had snacks and afternoon hors d'oeuvres ready for guests. We enjoyed our wine by the pool, where there are several nice sitting areas. She made suggestions and provided a map for our biking excursions, and she was very helpful in general with getting oriented to the area.

We would definitely return again and will recommend this inn to all of our family and friends. This is indeed a hidden gem, convenient to everything but quiet and peaceful.

The title says it all.

Everything you want from a B&B. As good as the best in the UK.

Thanks, Valerie. I do hope we get the chance to come back to Sonoma and stay again.

We bumped into Hidden Oak Inn by chance - what a nice coincidence which rewarded us with a very nice and authentic evening in "Insomnia". Great Thai across the street and charming farmers' market every Tuesday including free cinema. Good breakfast included. Compared to other Inns in the area it's really worthwile staying there. Afternoon delights were much better than expected.

First time to Sonoma and second time at a B&B. Loved the friendly service, immaculate & air-conditioned room, chocolate chip cookies, M&M's, home-made blueberry jam, tasty croissants, yummy cinnamon rolls, chilled bottled water, wine & cheese, fridge to store leftovers in, beautiful grounds, pool, hot tub, complimentary bikes, and so much more...

Fantastic location in great neighborhood just a short walk to Sonoma plaza. Sonoma has fabulous restaurants (The Girl & the Fig was our favorite) and shopping!!! Tuesday night Farmer's Market on the Plaza is a blast!

Can't wait to return. Thanks for your hospitality, Valerie and Don!
