“Wonderful time”
Reviewed 22 September 2010

We stayed at Sonoma Valley Inn for two nights as it was our base center to visit both Sonoma and Napa Valleys. It was really comfortable and relaxing, even more if you plan to spend a lot of time going from one vineyard to another. Rooms are really big, with all facilities you may need. We even had a chimney in our room!
Breakfast is brought directly to your room every morning and, although it is a bit scarce, is really good in terms of quality.
Staff was friendly and willing to help. Location was perfect, two minute walk to the main square, Sonoma Plaza, where you can find good restaurants and historic buildings.

When booking this hotel (we were staying for 2 nights), we were over-whelmed by the choice in Napa/Sonoma etc. Having stayed in Best Westerns in the past, we knew what we were getting and felt that we didn't have to spend over $300 a night. The rooms are very spacious, clean, free tea/coffee. lovely fireplace, views of the pool area. Hotel staff extremely helpful, offering to book places for supper. They gave free tasting vouchers when we checked in to a number of different wineries - saving us (a couple) about $30 in total.
A short walk to the centre of Sonoma (max 3 mins). Parking easy right outside your door. Small gym with a couple of machines (helps work off the excess wine!).

Top Tips
- Go for an early evening wine tasting in Roche Vineyards (on the corner of the north-west corner of main square in Sonoma). Extremely friendly. On the day we visited they had an oyster bbq.
- Restaurants - everyone raved about The Fig and The Girl. Good meal but did not quite live up to the hype and fairly pricey. We enjoyed a fun pizzeria just to the south of the square called Red Pizza (I think!). Walking around the town centre about 5pm was a wonderfully relaxed experience and a good way to check out the various rest/bars on offer. Very safe area.
- Touring vineyards - we booked a tandem with Sonoma Valley Tours. Excellent value and they gave us a couple of routes to choose from.
- Buy your own lunch from Basque Boulangerie Deli in the centre of Sonoma. They do perfect sized packed lunches for visiting vineyards. Every vineyard we visited allowed you to take a picnic and provide glasses to have your wine. The picnis areas were simply stunning. A must to do in Sonoma.

We stayed 3 nights and it was perfect for what we were looking for. The hotel is located just 2 blocks from the Sonoma Plaza, the rooms are large and clean and there is a great pool area for relaxing in the afternoon. Our room had a fireplace and over looked the pool. The hotel has a small but decent fitness center, friendly staff and coffee, tea and hot chocolate in the lobby throughout the day. There was a complimentary wine tasting in the pool area on Friday night and as a guest at the hotel you received free reserve tastings for two at Cline and Jacuzzi.

We really enjoyed our stay and would stay here again on our next trip to Sonoma.

This is one of my favorite little inns in Sonoma! It is the perfect way to affordably enjoy the Wine Country and still feel pampered.
It's a great value for the money -- whether you want a family trip or a couple's get-away or a girls weekend (which is what we did).
The location is fantastic -- steps from the charming Sonoma square and many great restaurants.
The staff was friendly and helpful, the room was lovely and comfortable, and the courtyard area with pool, hot tub and evening wine tasting could not have been more pleasant.
I highly recommend this hotel, and can't wait to go back myself!

The hotel is conveniently located near Sonoma square. As with many Best Westerns' the motel is dated in design and decoration-tired, but with an above average price/day This one in particular also is trying to emulate the airlines-it has an automatic $1.95/day charge for a in room safe. The "breakfast" is a check off card with a tray of prepackaged (small) goods which may be found at breakfast time-think one banana or apple as the most edible selection! If you should wish to have a real breakfast walk across the street to the Black Bear Diner. Each morning we went to the lobby for fresh coffee-only to find the dispense/potr empty. I felt that we were " nickeled and dimed" for substandard service and extras-just like on the airlines--you can do better with one of the other lodging choices.

A great location, just 2 blocks off of Sonoma Square. This is a lovely little inn with fireplaces in the room, some rooms even have jacuzzis. Our room just had a fireplace, but was roomy and comfortable. There was a little terrace overlooking the pool area that had a couple of chairs where you could sit and enjoy the fresh air. One of the great parts of the room that it included breakfast deliverd each morning. You had your choice of bagels, muffins cereals, some fruit, juice and coffee. The food was pretty good. There was a coffee maker in the room, so instead of delivering coffee to you, they just sent a packet for you to make your own coffee, which was not very good. However in th lobby they always had Starbuck's coffee made, as well as ice tea and tea bags. The hotel had a decent size pool as well as hot tub and sauna. Also a fire pit to help on those chilly Sonoma nights.

The room was clean and comfortable, I would defiitely stay here again.
